Hello, Ihave an xps gen 5, I changed out the two optical drives out with two pioneer ax11s. The originals were a toshiba dvd rom and a nec dvd/cd rw), when I boot up I get a bios error, drive 5 unknown (it's turned on) if I hit f1 and get a normal boot then all of my software sees the drive and knows what it is. I cannot how ever get the drive in to dma mode, after many many hours on the phone with the quote unquote dell high techs. I found that the that the bios, motherboard,or chipset does not like the pioneer hook up on drive 5 but it will accept the nec.Drive 4 or master (drive d) is fine with the pioneer burner. What the hell kind of crap is that,I have a dimension 2300 on which I've changed the burners about 5 times never a problem,in the dam xps if you swap position of the drives physically the drive destination (d & e )follow the dam drives nuts. The dell super techs (overseas) are going to have a tech make a house call and change out the motherboard,if any one has any ideas I would like the input. Thanks m71b Sad
