|
|
| Quote: | Telecommunications giant AT&T Inc. has inked a cell phone contract with Dell.
Dallas-based AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) will carry Dell's new Android-based Mini 3i smartphone, as well as four others from HTC Corp. and Motorola Inc.
AT&T will begin selling the devices by mid-2010.
Round Rock-based Dell Inc.'s (Nasdaq: DELL) Mini 3i smartphone was unveiled in November. The product is Dell’s first endeavor in the phone market.
Dell Chief Financial Officer Brian Gladden has said Dell’s smartphone business will be carrier-centric and serve as a natural extension of the company’s netbook business, for which AT&T provides service.
AT&T has been seeking to expand its smartphone offerings. The company has been the exclusive wireless carrier partner for Apple's iPhone, but there is widespread speculation that Apple will begin working with other carriers once its contract with AT&T expires this year.

they are determined to make a failure in phones too............
Everyone remember the Axim?
Just wait till they all fail out of the box.
Dell has NO engineering department, and their quality control is so dismal the things will have a 9 out of 10 failure rate guaranteed.
There are a dozen other companies decades ahead of Dhell in phone engineering. I'd rather have the worst piece of crap LG phone than ANY phone made by Dhell. Mind you, support shouldnt be a big issue, after all Dhell is counting on the failures not being ABLE to call in and complain.
Now picture thisyour Dhell phone has been on the blink for weeks, Dhell wont take it in for repair, or evades completely what if any useless warranty they provide on it, and the customer stuck with failed equippment while still paying the hefty service fees ont he 10 year contract they had to sign to get the damn thing in the first place.Which of course is why Dhell has been trying to get into the phone business for years, because the true price of phones is built into cell phone contracts. Dhell can smell money. Unfortunately the primary buyer of phones are NOT businesses, they're consumers. You know, the very same consumers that Dhell has been ripping off on crap desktops and laptops they refuse to support, and the consumers, thankfully, have been catching on. I predict the biggest Dhell FAIL EVER!
This will be the year Dhell goes chapter 11. This much I can see already, it just remains to be seen how many of them end up in jail a la Enron .

Actually I think AT&T will be the one getting the short end on this "raw deal."
The phones will be from DHell and will have Dhell's logo on them, but AT&T will be selling and servicing them. This means when (NOT IF) these phones fail and/or fall apart, AT&T will be dealing with the angry customers NOT DHell. On top of this, it will be AT&T's service people that will be dealing with DHell's (lack of) Tech Support people. So based on these two bits of information, I believe that the DHell phone will be an epic failure for not only DHell, but also AT&T.
One more thing, the speculation that Apple is planning to dump AT&T as the IPhone's preferred carrier when the contract expires this year is dead on accurate. I have a friend inside the cell phone industry that according to the word from the grapevine that Apple is extremely unhappy with AT&T and that Verizon will be getting the new contract for the Apple IPhone. So with the loss of the IPhone business, AT&T needs to find a replacement for the IPhone too bad they chose DHell. _________________ Q: How do you know Dell Management is lying to you?

Note how AT&T commercials are going tit-for-tat with Verizon over "the map". Well, that's commercials for you. If lying on television was illegal and enforced, there would be a lot less television. AT&T is also lying in their brochures. I'm on their E-band service, which is just barely adequate, so I get their blurbs.
The brochure paints most of the country orange, indicating coverage of some kind. But the squinty-print disclaimer says the AT&T map doesn't represent all services. One of the ones it doesn't represent is what iphone operates on, 3G.
My brother and I live in the center of the #8 metro in the nation. Near his house, his iphone wouldn't phone. Near my house, it wouldn't data. When his contract expired he got a Motorola iphone from Verizon, and it works everywhere.
This issue surfaced upon the introduction of iphone and has not substantially improved. That's why Apple is ditching AT&T. Which makes AT&T and Dell perfectly matched.
You can't tell the phone doesn't work if the service doesn't work, you can't tell the service doesn't work if the phone doesn't work, and you can't call in to complain about it unless you also subscribe to Verizon. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

| AT&T and Dell partnering up.....A lemon will always bring down the reputation of a company...and I bet Dhell is going to bump up AT&T's complaints by a whole lot with defective phones. |

| Yes, this is going to be fun to watch. What Dell fails to see is that the kids in the ATT store are going to direct customers away from the crap phones when they start coming back in. They will lhave to resort to bribing the sales kids with bonus cash for each sale, but in the end, Dell will not be able to buy their way out of this mess. If Dell tlhinks they can just sell them on their web site, ..right.... They are going to be looking for the cash up front from ATT, hard sell worthless service plans, and then not honor the warrantee.... You won't be able to return it to ATT, they are going to send you to Dell's phone queue.... A new level in Dell Hell. |

I found some articles (with pictures) of the "new" Dell Mini 3i (or as I prefer to call the "DHell Disaster-in-Waiting") on Phone Scoop and a few other sites.
Links below.

Also a friend told me that there are some AT&T stores in Austin that are now carrying these phones and that they are the typical DHell product (translation: the worst smartphone on the market) right now. From what I understand, AT&T has 3 smartphones displayed side by side and linked to a single power on button so someone can power up all 3 phones at the same time. Apparently the 1st phone boots up completely in less than 20 seconds, the 2nd follows at about 30 seconds later and the DHell brings up the rear pushing the 2 minute mark. Hearing this little problem and knowing DHell's product quality, I will put real money down that says by July this year, AT&T puts the DHell Mini 3i in with the "free phones" for people buying or renewing a 2 year service contract. _________________ Q: How do you know Dell Management is lying to you?

The tech support at Always Taking & Taking are pretty much on the same level as Dhell. Maybe they could get into a bidding war over worst techs to trade with each other. _________________ Dell, IBM, Sony, Lexmark, A+, Net+, for what purpose I don't know sometimes. |

It's fitting: AT&T's service sucks and DHell's products suck......they're a perfect match for each other! _________________ Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia. |

My brother ditched his ATT/iphone as soon as the contract ran out. We live right in the middle of the 8th biggest metro in the country. It wouldn't phone near his house and it wouldn't data near mine. His Verizon/Motorola doesn't have a problem either place. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist
