|
|
I'm new to this forum and thought I would post my most recent Dell experience. It's probably something others can relate to and to this day remains unresolved (but if I'm to believe Dell, should be resolved within this next week).
So, on October 24th, I ordered the Xbox 360 game Call of Duty: World at War from Dell on their Video game "Days of Deals" promo (so I saved 10 bucks + no shipping charges).
On Nov 10th, a day before the game is supposed to hit retailers, Dell contacts me via email and says that my order has been delayed.
I emailed them back and complained, this was my email:
I just received an email today stating that my order has been delayed. This comes a day before my order (an Xbox 360 game, Call of Duty: World at War) was to be released (Nov 11). I would like to know why my order has been delayed. There have been no reports online about this game being delayed. Dell should be able to know how many units they have on order to offer customers when they take these pre-orders. The expectation of any retailer when they take pre-orders is that they will have the stock to supply it's customers. What's even more frustrating is the fact that there was no indication as to when I can expect to get my game, only that if it's more than 5 days, you'll email me. Last year, my order (edited out) was delayed by quite a bit too (over 2 weeks). So this is the second time I've ordered a product from Dell and it's been delayed without reason or compensation. Both orders were made during your "Dell Video Game Days of Deals promotion", so it makes me wonder if Dell thinks that since I got a deal, I can wait for my order. Please email me with a more accurate update as soon as possible. Thank you.
They responded with an apology and explained that it was "Huge shortage" and that my copy should ship on Nov 17th. No word of compensation or "express" delivery, nothing.
If you notice in my email to them, this isn't the first time this has happened, it happened last year during the same promotion. |

Delays and cancellations have become synonymous with Dell's promotions. One has to wonder why they even run promotions. It's not to gain customers because it pisses people off. It's not to ship product, because they're just as likely to cancel the sale altogether.
Storefront retailers at one time ran 'get you in the door' promotions for things they didn't have. The government put a stop to that. One might also wonder how Dell escapes government oversight. Could it be the $1/4M that MSD contributed to Bush? Mmmmm, could be. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

I'm happily playing COD5 right now - got it from Best Buy - even waited until yesterday (Saturday) to buy it because I couldn't go to the store after work since Tuesday.
Maybe The_Alex should have chosen Amazon over Dell? But then again, I have misgivings pre-ordering online. So the problem with Dell is not only with its mainstream products, but all other products up for sale from its website. |

You're right, I probably could have bought it at Amazon and been playing it right now. I went with Dell to save $10.
My biggest frustration is not that I didn't receive it the day it came out, it's that Dell won't be shipping it til tomorrow (The 17th). Had they even just shipped it on the release date, I would have had it by now. |

Oh well, then I guess the worst thing that will happen is that you'll just look like a noob when you start playing multiplayer (kidding). I've seen somebody at Level 54 now (I wonder if that that guy ever slept). LOL
It's a great game - the World War II setting is not bad at all. In fact the sound of distant guns firing are top notch (especially the echoing/reverbs in close quarters indoors), makes you feel like you're in Saving Private Ryan. Sorry, I can't stop raving about it.
Are you crying yet, Alex?
Can't you cancel the order? Dell will cancel the order inexplicably sometime anyway, unless for some miracle the site says it's already "shipped".
Cheers! |
