Yes, I am considered a "regular hater" on this site and my contempt for Dell is beyond definition. That being said, I'm also willing to tip my hat when something does go right, or at least consider myself extremely lucky.
When I was employed at Dell I was sucked in to getting a credit account and purchasing a laptop. The offer was 0% finance for 9 months. Unfortunately I failed to read the entire offer, i.e. the fine print, and discovered that if the balance wasn't paid in full by the end of the offer I would have to pay on the accured finance charges. Six days before the end-of-offer date I paid the balance in full using the payment website on the DFS. Three weeks later I decided to check my account online to see what it was showing. Sure enough, there was a balance of the accured interest. My blood pressure went through the roof and my jugular veins throbbed as I searched for a phone number to call and prepared myself for a run around. The rep informed me that the website on DFS charges a fee of $9 and change. I didn't recall seeing that fee posted at any time while making the transaction, nor did I see it when I printed out my reciept of payment. The rep filed a waiver and had the fee removed. My account balance went to zero. I double checked this morning, and sure enough I saw the big goose egg.
Could it be that Dell is finally listening to their customers and beginning to turn things around? Or did I just get lucky that morning? Being once bitten twice shy I tend to think the latter. At least there's one person in DFS who is forgiving of customers who fail to read the fine print, wherever it is. _________________ "Senator! One more thing. LOVE your suit." - Hannibel Lecter |

NINE DOLLARS service charge for paying online? The water utility subcontractor here charges $3, and I thought THAT was outrageous. After all, an online transfer costs them less to handle than a mailed check. They're the biggest hosebags I deal with. Nobody else charges ANYTHING for online payment, they prefer it.
That "we added a service charge we didn't tell you about so you did NOT pay the account 'in full' and thus we get to soak you for deferred interest" trick is a standard for DFS. I'm quite surprised they rolled it back. Let me look out the window and see if the world is ending. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist
