I work for one of the three companies getting most of the hardware break/fix work for Dell.

I have only had this position since mid-April 2008, but I have already replaced the mainboards for dozens of Latitude D630's/D620's (as well as D830's/D820's).

In some cases, I have had customers ask me if it was normal for the mainboard to fail very quickly.

The D630 is marketed by Dell as being a 'hip' business model, yet it suffers from unreliable mainboards and LCD Panels.

The problems with the D630 almost seem like those with the Optiplex GX270.

So far, I've only had to work on two of the new Latitude E-Series. In each case, it was the exact same problem: the LCD Panel wasn't correctly plugged into the mainboard.

So, no other break/fix technicians, former Dell people, or others have anything to add about this model.

Dell models do have consistent failure modes. There used to be an engineering group, Failure Analysis, that looked into this and straightened it out. I was one. I got laid off in 2001.

Today, once Dell has your money, they don't give a flying fxck what happens.
