Hello there, I am new to this forum. I have for the last several days been searching the web looking at all the complaints against Dell. Here is a short version of what has happened. I applied and was approved for a Business credit account with DFS just the other day. I ordered a digital camera which I received with no problems. I try and order something else and the next morning I receive a e-mail telling me to call the "Verification Dept." I am like oh boy, here we fucking go now. So, I call and the lady gets on the phone and says we need to ask you a few verification questions. She places me on hold and comes back and basically starts saying they could not verify my business blah blah. So, I am pissed off, I have called them three times with the same results NOTHING. They did not even ask me anything! I aks the lady to close the acocunt and they refuse. So being mad as hell, I get on the Dell website and find "Downloadable software" Smile I order some, and in about a hour I get a e-mail stating my product is ready for download. So, over the course of about three days, I have downloaded close to $700 worth of software. Now here is the funny thing about it. Because DFS has frozen my account everytime I order the software, it subtracts from my remaining credit which was about $1700 before the orders, but it NEVER actually subtracts the amount form the credit line! So, for all of you that have "frozen" DFS accounts Please, go get you some free software. You need and deserve it. To make a long story short I am a Dell certified Tech,I have worked for Dell in the past "Under Contract" and this crap about Dell does not know who I am and cannot verify my id is a complete crock of shit. I even mailed the salesperson my Dell DCSE number with no response. Screw you Dell! and thanks for the software and Free camera!

I've always said "never use DFS".

But you've come up with a new way to "use" them. I hope it doesn't bite you in the butt. Surely you must know by now, biting you in the butt is the business Dell is REALLY in.

It will bite you in the ass. It's technically fraudulent activity.
Please people, don't give DELL a reason to be assholes.
It's like painting a hibernating bear's toe-nails pink... funny as hell until the bear wakes up and eats your head.
Take a frozen account as the gift it was meant to be. Don't buy any more products from DELL.

I wish I knew how bad DFS was when I tried ordering a computer a year ago. I owned Dell's for years without having any major issues. That is until I moved out of state to a new address. When I moved I decided to get a new $3500 computer. I've always had excellent credit and used their DFS account countless times.

I told the sales rep I recently moved and I don't have my Dell credit card on hand as I haven't used it in about 2 years, can I give you my SSN or verify my account without going by my address? He says they will just make a new account for me since I told him I had no balance on my old card--which I didnt. Anyway, he makes a new account, the order goes through, says its being built--then after a week it's canceled. I called up and the rep said it looks like a mistake and put in another order. Same thing happened again where it was canceled after a week.

I literally placed 5 orders before someone finally told me I need to contact DFS verification. These people should be lined up and shot. I never spoke to such dense people with absolutely no morals or respect. This is coming from a correctional officer who deals with inmates every single day.

They would not tell me what the problem was, they just said theres a problem with my account. I was absolutely livid in the fact they gave me no option to fix whatever the problem was! I also requested to close my account then and they refused! How this is legal I have no idea. If I had enough info to open the account which shows on my credit report then why cant I close it?! I offered to send in a photo copy of my badge, ID, SSN, etc. They said there's nothing I can do. Unreal.

One of the sales reps tried helping me which was very nice. She was able to pull up my old account and I verified my old address and everything else. She talked with someone from DFS and when she came back she said they are still denying my credit access. At that point I just gave up. I couldnt use, access, or close my own account. When I tried looking up my old account online it said it was closed since there was no activity on it for a long period of time and my new account was blocked.

Two months later I finally found out on my own accord that my bank had my old address in their computer still. They had my new address to mail out my statements but in their computer they still had my old address. That was the problem. When Dell called my bank my address wasn't matching. Now if Dell would have just said my address doesn't match up I could have addressed the problem in two minutes. Instead they just get nasty and condescending like I'm a criminal. Even after telling them how I just moved to my new home they would think, hey! Maybe thats why his address isnt matching, maybe we should ask what his old AND new address is. Nah--they prefer to just keep saying theres nothing they can do. Fucking scumbags.

Now this is even funnier. I cancled all Dell subscriptions and mailings. Everything seemed fine and then all of a sudden I get a Dell magazine at my new home address but with my old neighbors name on it when I lived in Jersey! How in the Hell do they put my NJ neighbor's name on my new PA address and send it to me? The shenanigans never cease to amaze me.

Magazines aren't the only thing Dell will send to the wrong address. As long as you have a DFS account, they can send you bills for things you didn't buy. You'll also find it difficult to impossible to close a DFS account.

How many times do I have to say this? NEVER-USE-DELL-FINANCIAL.

Well good luck to you there - with Dell now in the red, their accountants will go on overdrive and will find every missing penny that flew off their coffers. I expect they will just then "verify" your business for you and they will start charging you interest, and returning the wares can be bad move, because they will charge you with exorbitant "restocking fees".

Believe me Rocke, I still expect to see unknown bills for those computer orders that never went through to arrive at my door. Or even things my old neighbor ordered somehow be billed on my account. I never in my entire life actually wanted to rip someone through the phone line and shake the life out of them.

The funny thing is it was another computer builder who alerted me that my bank has a different address than the one I gave. It was a simple polite phone call. I then called my bank and had everything squared away within 15 minutes. It actually worked out great as that builder turned out to be half the price and the service has been fantastic. AND all the support is in the US! I couldnt ask for anything more.

Why DFS had to just keep saying theres nothing I can do on my end without giving any sort of indication as to why. And while I appreciate the fact that some companies try to prevent fraud this was beyond appropriate when the customer is trying to provide whatever information they needed for verification. Just the fact of having an open line of credit affects my credit and they gave me no option to close the account. I also wasnt aware that DFS and Dell are considered separate entities and have no idea what the other hand is doing. It really was a nightmare.

DFS is a nightmare alright, the likes of which nobody could imagine until AFTER they got mixed up with them.

Reason number 75: No matter what you call DFS about, they always say "there's nothing we can do".
