Hello fellow forum mates! As you read correctly NCR lost the Dell onsite account.I have no clue what went wrong since we used to have a pretty good feedback scores and a great team too.Our customers were always happy with our onsite service and once in a blue moon we would get a escalation here and there but who hasn't got that before.I will miss doing this as a job because for me it was freedom. I used to get paid hourly and we did get 401k and benifets through NCR plus 44 cents a mile no cap from start to finish. So now i guess we have to move on to the p.o.s side of things.Well at least we still have jobs.Just wanted to let you guys know who work at Banteq, unisys and qualxserve is don't get to used to these jobs since Dell is very unstable. One day they praise you for a job well done then next pull the account right under you.If any body has any questions on how to do this job or the Dell tests let me know. Very Happy

(Update)We still get a call here and there from Dell.Have know idea why tho.

Dell scrubbed the contract with NCR? Wow. Shocked

It makes me wonder what is coming next? If they cancelled the deal with them, then who's next? Surely it won't stop with just one.

Unless this is part of their new philosophy of "no service for you". Looks like they expect everyone to start replacing all parts over the phone instead. Or overwork those remaining providers until they crack at the seams and then they can cancel those deals too?

This is incredible news to be sure.

I once did a BancTec call for an NCR employee, he was a software engineer for the company. He basically described NCR as "IBM without a conscience"...which was pretty scary, since I never thought IBM had one to begin with.

NCR was also bidding for the currently-underway nation-wide Home Depot rollout, but lost it last year. In case anyone's noticed, HD is upgrading their entire nationwide store network to the latest HP webterm and NCR POS (cash register) systems, flat touchscreens and 22" flatscreen monitors. Currently Deployment Solutions, Inc (DSI) has the contract. I was doing them for a couple months last year, but hurt my back in Ohio last month. It's very heavy labor-intensive work, but it paid the bills.

As far as Dell repairs are concerned, Dell has hard-lined the depot repair service. I pick up parts and occasionally run Unisys NBD calls, but all too frequently I see customers picking up their laptops from the local DHL hub.

The only other companies I know that had Dell soft-contracts are as follows:

BancTec (residential NBD; desktops & laptops, lowest paying, $23 per call + $0.33 / mile, temps get more money than employees, frequently sub-sub-contracts to Syntechs, which they call "fifth party")

Qualxserv (residential & heavy-commercial (servers, workstations, etc.) NBD; also comm. desktops & laptops, second-lowest paying, $34 / call, 0 mileage, temps not allowed to do more than 30 calls / week, w2 reimb unknown but probably extremely low)

Decision One (commercial printers; pay unknown, frequently farms out to BancTec)

Unisys (commercial Dell desktops & laptops NBD; best paying, $50 to $75 per call to temps, w2's unknown)

Thanks for the update on NCR; I didn't know they lost it. Makes me wonder who's doing server & workstation work for them now, probably Qualxserv or Unisys.

Dan

It was my understanding that Unisys has been walked from some accounts as well. I know that in the consumer market only a handful of vendors can stomach the low rates and margins (not even Banctec wanted to play). Who is left to perform delivery services for DMS?? Do they still go through Velocity if so that must be a sad bunch of beat up vendors as well.

When I was with QXS, there was a meeting at a Philadelphia International Airport hotel that was attended by technicians working in suburban Philadelphia.

There was a representative from Dell at the meeting. His name was Kevin Callanan. His official title was Regional Support Manager Northeast U.S.- Commercial Support Services.

At the meeting, he basically stated that NCR was going to be relieved of Dell break/fix work. I thought that was only going to be for the Northeast, though.

My grandpa worked for NCR back when they sold cash registers. Solid company, but time damaged them.

Still, it looks like they were trying to be conscientious employers, with benefits and mileage. That's almost certainly what killed them with Dell.

QXS, Unisys, and Banctec are hosebag leeches. They employ nobody but an office manager, and invest nothing but minimal office space and a fax machine.
