Dell, Inc. plans to ban smoking at all its U.S. facilities.
The plan to make all Dell campuses in the United States tobacco-free starting Jan. 1 was announced internally Wednesday, Dell spokesman Jess Blackburn says.
"The most important reason is we believe this is a positive move to contribute to a better and healthier lifestyle for our employees," he says.
Blackburn says the measure will also contribute to lowering health care costs for employees and the company.
Dell will also offer its employees a smoking cessation program as part of its overall voluntary wellness program, which includes onsite fitness centers and weight-loss programs.
Dell employs about 1,500 people in Middle Tennessee.

Boy, did that ever stir up a shit storm on the Employee Storm site.
Hey addicts, they only banned tobacco products, not nicotine.
You can still get your fix on company time/property |

That decision is going to cause all kinds of ripples. You can't expect to ban smoking and still have a full staff compliment.
Bad move Dell. |

The cynical view is that it gives HR something else to terminate you for. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

After any good release - they must think of ways to get those that remain behind... a reason to quit... and I am not talking about the habit... _________________ Released in 2008! |

If they don't term ya for sneaking a smoke out behind some building, they'll term ya for leaving Dell property during work hours (of course ya lunch won't count...but try to run across the parking lot at WS1 in the alloted 15 minute break. That is after walking UP from DC or Burn and then going thru the metal detectors).
The old Smoking Tent's going to be used as the new HR kiosk ( ya wont be able to go out there since HR's office is right up stairs overlooking it.)
Leaving WS1 was the best deal I had made!

It's not Dell's fault you're unable to find another way of venting than going outside and sucking on a cancer stick. |
