Qualxserv has been good steady part time work for 10 years but I will probably go with the next good job offer I get (No hurry....I have received many over the years but turned the down because I like doing this work) from some big company. I am quitting all part times and looking for one nice gig.

I will miss serving Cleveland on behalf of Dell. It is a tricky territory to make work in a part time environment so good luck with the next tech if they can find one.

If Qualxserv and Unisys offered cars (big AMERICAN cars with long wheel base...No little crappy cars either!!! The roads in this country are DESTROYED!!) and salaries I would stay and take on and take way more territory but it just no longer feels like a place I can stay at long term. I really wish hardware repair was more of a career opportunity. Which brings me to my point.

I would love to see a nationwide sales and tech force created for Dell. A #1 point of contact for all things concerning Dell in a given territory. 1 man or woman for sales AND service for every territory. Dell cars (AGAIN... big AMERICAN cars with long wheel base) and Dell pay and benefits. A high salary position so that techs are motivated to stay in sales and service.

Not everyone wants to conquer the certification world and climb the ladder. Find the friendly high rated techs that enjoy the work and create a program that will endure the test of time. Its all about service for any of the OEM's right now. Dell has a great on site service record so RUN with it and dominate!!

Anyway, it has been great and I'll probably be here another year or so but then..... I will sincerely miss it and I have learned A LOT. But I am burned out on hustling three jobs for 10 years so something has to give. Kid on the way and need something with good benefits and steady work with rewards.

You've done good work I'm sure. It's just wrong that hands-on techs are economically denied a career, and relegated to parttime subcontractors.

The regional support model has been going out of style for ~20 years. But most business models are cyclical, and it may come back. HP has recognized that support is the new priceline as a basis of competition. Dell is well behind the curve, just now putzing with retail whilst everyone else ALWAYS did that. And they're still stonewalling support every chance they get. Dell would be the last company in the world to come around to a regional support model. HP on the other hand, might be amenable.

Dell's current model is, if the Chinese can't be made to do it for $2 an hour, it doesn't fit their model. I'm surprised they haven't already farmed onsite to Chinese food delivery restaurants. Wait, no I'm not surprised. Look at the prices for Chinese food delivery! Noodles and a sprinkle of meat for $10. But from news articles, Dell is sloughing off desktop assembly onto Chinese contractors operating out of Mexico. This is what they're replacing the Austin plant capacity with.

Make me a big American car that gets 40mpg like my saturn does, and then i'll concede this point Razz

Of course, i suppose a simple gas card would be sufficient, then what kind of car you drove wouldnt really matter.

Exactly. Mileage in that scenario would not be our problem.

With the roads in this country falling COMPLETELY apart I would demand a big azz car to continue this line of work.

I am sick of having to put the occasional large boxes on the front seat of my civic. Unacceptable.

And little rice burning cars are unacceptable too. They beat the LIVING snot out of the human body.

This is probably the MAIN reason I refuse 3 to 6 calls per day that are more than 30 miles away. I am done running that hard. Give me 3-5 calls per day in a small area or screw off. That has been my stance for nearly 4 years now. I used to run a 100+ mile radius.
