I have seen a lot of good valid complaints about DHELL but this is not one of them. We all know that DHELL does not manufacture HDDs or Motherboards. The "refurbished" sticker does not mean the product has been used before and I bet if the customer in this video checks their original order they will see that it has an 80 gig HDD on it.
IMO this video is silly. |

Yikes. That video is a classic example of what is wrong with consumers. Your product is Dell in NAME ONLY. Dell doesn't make your motherboard, or your RAM, or your hard drive, or your LCD screen, or your keyboard, or the plastics, or the CPU, or the heatsink, or the screws that try to hold it all together. Hell, they don't even make the plastic Dell logo that is on it.
And just because someone has "the exact same" unit as you, doesn't mean jack squat when it comes to hard drive size.
And refurbished parts are STANDARD. Show me one computer company that replaces broken parts with NEW parts and I'll show you a company that loses money. You get refurbished because your system is no longer new so why would they put new parts in it? Your computer is used, so it gets used parts.
Consumers should better educate themselves before they spout off. |

On the refurb issue, do note that the computer industry is the only one that does that. Your car gets new parts in warranty. Your appliances do.
There IS a reliability defecit with Dell's refurbs. First, especially drives, have been handled 4 times as much as a new drive, and drives don't like handling if it's the least bit careless. Neither do memory sticks.
Second, the pool of refurb parts come from systems which were returned, some for cause, some for intermittent failure. The tests Dell uses to qualify refurbs is A), too brief to detect intermittency and B) too incomprehensive to catch drives which haven't yet overtly failed but DO have a problem. I have run these tests myself, and knowing enough about drives I could tell the drive was struggling on the verge of failure, yet it passed the Dell tests. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist
