I just bought a Dell OptiPlex 755. It had no installation instructions or user manual. Altho' I am untechie, I've had PC's for a couple decades and I figured I could do it.

After I set it up, it continually shuts off and when I reboot, it is always trying to dial up. Sometimes, when using it the e-mail stops working and I find that in the background it is trying to dial up. I thought maybe they put a user manual inside the computer. Nope! I went to my miniMac and through Yahoo search, I finally found a Dell site which admits that they do not always send set up instructions or user manuals. What's with that? Even my toaster came with instructions.

What do I notice in the instructions? A warning that the set up must be done exactly how Dell explains in the instructions or it will harm the computer.

I've sent 5 e-mails, without a single reply.

Before this I had to argue with them that I had not order 2 monitors. They finally agreed to take back the extra monitor. At first they tried to short change me saying that I had paid only $140.00, but the invoice said $239.00. The second person said I would get a full refund.

I am suspicious that the machine does not have every thing I ordered inside.

What kind of idiots do not send set up instructions or a user manual?

You're one of the 5% or so of users that would look for an instruction manual, first off. A vast majority of people would just call tech support, before looking for the solution themselves.

Secondly, those sorts of issues wouldnt be covered in a standard instruction manual. The email problem specifically sounds like your internet options have your dial up connection set to dial automatically whenever you try to go online, rather than connect manually. This is a normal setting, and relatively easy to fix by unchecking that checkbox in the connections tab of the internet options menu under Tools.

All systems ship with a manual, but it's now in electronic format. When you boot the system up, there's a folder/item called Documentation And Support and the "manual" is located in there.

But like with the majority of manuals, it's about as helpful as wings on a cow.
