My laptop woes.

Received laptop in June 2006:
-1 month later: froze from time to time
-8 months later: after 5 phone calls totaling over 15 hours of talking and over 30 e-mails, Dell sent me a box to ship back the computer and have it repaired
-8.5 months later: laptop returned to wrong address
-9 months later: laptop shipped to my correct address, received without any repairs completed, original problems exist along with now the monitor shutting off from time to time
-9 months: Dell ships a refurbished hard drive which I have to replace on the computer myself, hard drive had tons of spyware
-12 months: monitor shuts off
-20 months: monitor burns out, laptop crashes and begins to overheat. The laptop is now a desktop since the only way I can see the screen is via another monitor.

Don't every buy a Dell laptop or desktop. These computers are cheap for a reason; the parts on them are generic, non-branded parts cheaply made in China and assembled into the load of crap that Dell is. My case is not unique as there are many, many individuals around me that had Dell laptops of various models break down on them and vowed never to go back to Dell. The service, if you every reach it, is also horrible. The company is designed to minimize cost by having you try to perform all of the repairs remotely. Unless you purchase a 5 year warranty on the machine, you are guaranteed to lose. A laptop is also supposed to run for more than 2 years as my previous Toshiba Satellite has been running just fine for the past 6 years. I hope the advice has helped.
