It's Monday morning and I'm sitting here bored....so I have a question.

I have no intention of every purchasing a Dell product again but was thinking about applying online to Dell Financial just for grins. If I do this and i'm approved but make no purchase (I figure Dell Financial needs the practice) is there any downside that I should be aware of? If I establish a line of credit with Dell, are they going to be calling daily?

Dell Financial accounts are subject to internal fraud. There are cases on record of people being charged out of the blue for things they never ordered. And you already know Dell's response when things go wrong--stonewalling. So when you get a bill for $2000 for something you didn't buy, it's impossible to get the charge reversed, and they will sic a collection agency on you to get you to pay it.

I'd say that's a downside.

They won't openly solicit you to make a purchase. The only way doing what you described could affect you adversely is if you intend to apply for any other type of loan, credit card, mortgage or line of credit that you may actually need. Each time you apply for credit your credit rating will take a hit, the more hits in a smaller amount of time the less likely you will be to get what you want. Also the more credit you have means the less credit you'll get for other things. Total debt to income ratio is factored in. If you get say a 5k line of credit with Dell and never use it the bank still sees it as that's 5k you could blow tomorrow (potential debt). That will hurt you if you need to get a loan for something you really need. My advice is don't bother getting a line of credit with them unless you plan on actually using it.

I just made a post that said that was the whole reason I got one for myself. I expect Dell to screw me some way eventually, and I look forward to it. Nothing gets me going more than a good scrap.

People in India should not be working in Dell's financial dept. They don't know what the hell they are doing and each time I call I demand to speak with a US rep.

Well, good luck with that - they will just put you on hold for 30 minutes between questions or drop your call if you start demanding to speak to a US rep. Some Americans felt even lucky to get a Canadian rep but in a month or so there won't be any Canadian reps left. You might as well ask for a Filipino tech because they're not that bad.

Dell Financial in India? That gives me the creeps - I once watched a news clip in Youtube about an Indian outsourcer that took care of credit card issues for British customers sold their credit card information to the highest bidder.

It's not just Indian reps that do that - it's primarily overseas in general with heavy emphasis on outsourced centers...that sell your info I mean.

Stonewalling is the same method Dell used for so-called "customer service."

lets not forget the 21% interest rate they charge as well. If you want to get some credit, open a card with someone that offers 10% or so... Very Happy

well well other people have my problem. guess what? when you try and pay your bill online you can't! you get a message that says "check back in 15 minutes." well that 15 min message is ALWAYS there. then you call to pay your bill on the phone and they charge you $10 for that!!! A$$ES! deliberate stonewalling to make extra money.

i even have an email from dell that says they are ware of the problem...but do they fix it??????????? no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NEVER again!

PostPosted: Sun Aug 24, 2008 8:50 am    Post subject: Cheated by Dell Financial Services Reply with quote

I was cheated by Dell Financial Services for a part (Laptop Battery) that I ordered in May 2008. The customer service representative asked me to switch over to the Dell Financial Services asked me to open up a credit account to get a better deal. However, I did not receive the product and was charged for it. Also, I got a letter from Dell stating that I have a problem in my account for which the services have been declined. The Dell debt collection department kept on harassing me to pay back the money owned without spending time with me with respect to find out why I didn't receive the part. They kept on calling me with black calls from India. Finally, I decided to pay back the amount owned along with the penalty to get rid of Dell. I have been quite surprised to know that I am not unique here. NY state has filled a case against Dell for cheating customers by not providing them the promised services. I will not buy a product from this company any more.
