Geez I "fired" Dell after purchasing no less than 8 machines from them over the years....and ended up buying an HP notebook from Office Depot. I made the purchase in August 2007 and the unit carries a one year warranty (kind of).
The battery won't hold a charge so I ran the HP Battery Health Test from their site and the result was battery failure and a msg that the battery may be replaced under warranty. So I called customer support and got a very nice guy who I could even understand in India. He informed me that the warranty had expired because HP starts the warranty clock on the date of manufacture and not when the purchase was made. I actually remained calm and asked him if I was to replace my notebook, wasn't it possible that I could get one that sat in the store for a year and thus have no warranty? He replied that I should buy it directly from HP!
Anyway I called a number that my wife had for customer support with American reps. It was explained that since HP didn't have my registration information on file, they use the date of manufacture to start the clock. BUT if I would fax in the copy of the sales receipt/proof of purchase, they would update my info and then would gladly send me a replacement battery.
All in all, HP was much easier to work with than Dell even though the first guy in India gave me false info. Not sure where i'll go for the next computer purchase...I have the feeling that all of the companies suck with maybe the exception of MAC. Just thought I'd share..... |

Big difference, the "if...gladly" phrase. You'll never hear a Dell rep say "gladly". _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

I've this sort of experience before.
Just remember with HP, if bought off the shelf, you have to make sure you register the computer with HP when you bring it home. If it needs service, you'll need a copy of the receipt.
I essentially went to buying from HP Direct, since they'll all the information on file anyways. |
