Hi all,
Just joined hoping someone can help me, having just read a previous post on here with the same issue as me, i havent tried to reinstall windows, or complete a chkdsk /r, or run the Dell hdd diagnostics yet.
I think i'm right in assuming that my hard drive is failing and if i do any of the above my hdd will fail, i need to save a few pictures and my emails as everything else is backed up. So, if i buy a new drive and install windows from my dell operating system disk, can i then use the old drive hooked up just to get the files from that i need?
My computer is out of warranty now so no point in ringing Dell.
Hope someone can help me before the wife gets fed up of being without a pc.
Cheers,
Graham

Windows is designed--whether deliberately or serendipitously--to fail booting before all data on the drive becomes inaccessible. Stop running the drive. The more it runs, the more data can be lost.

No need for other diagnostics, or chkdsk/r. Failcode 7 is all you need to know.

Buy a new one, reinstall OS, drivers, programs. THEN hookup the old drive as a slave and see what you can get off of it. BTW, handle unmounted drives as if they were eggs. They are VERY fragile.
