I'm trying to buy a TJ946 mobo from Dell.

I was told the item was presently out of stock and that it could take up to one month to become available. However, stock is updated every day, so...

Since Dell only accepts phone orders when stock is in, I might have to spend more than 5 hours (22 days X 15 min. minimum) giving service tag, address, etc... to some rep before I could even start fixing the machine.

Just a thought: Would Dell be keeping two types of stock parts? One being reserved for people *NOT* paying for installation.

EDIT: Some more info.
- I just learned that TJ946 is the part # for a mobo kit. The mobo itself is HJ054 (I can't understand how a company dealing with so many parts can properly operate with only 5 digits).
- I could find part HJ054 at AscendTech.us.

Good luck finding those parts on a third party site, dell doesnt just fork over motherboards to every self proclaimed technician out there (to avoid a massive amount of returns). In order to get one efficientley you have to go to tech support, recieve a case number, then the case number has to be attatched to the order for it even to process. This is the same story for lcd screens as well. Also a five digit part numbr is a refurb part which depending on how old your system is they might not have anymore.New parts are 7 digits and dont bother trying to look for the refurbs on the dell.com website cause they are not posted on it. If its older than 5 years you might as well kiss it goodbye or try ebay because dell doesn't allocate parts for systems older than 5 years.

There's a couple on ebay.

With a model that old, what you're going to run into is they need to recieve a shipment from their refurb center before it'll show in their inventory.

And the motherboard "kit" is the board, an instruction sheet, a tube of thermal grease, and a ChemWipe pad to wipe the old thermal grease off. The kit is what they send us warrantee techs.

The rig isn't even 2 years old. But of course more than 1 yr.... Rolling Eyes

Now, I happen to fix computers for a living. Incidentally, I'll never be able to work for Dell, if it were only because when I fix a rig, it works! Laughing

TY for the e-bay link. Now, although we are just across the Ambassador Bridge, AscendTech.us -the e-bay seller- doesn't make it easy for us Canadians to buy from them:
"Canada, APO, HI, AK and PR residents please email us for correct shipping rate. Normally you must add around $9 to the shipping cost. All Canada, APO, HI, AK, and PR residents must pay with a Money Order or Certified Bank Check. We will not accept any other payment's such as PayPal, etc."

And, to add insult to injury, the sales rep who answered was just an uneducated little bitch. Evil or Very Mad

I'm presently trying to get a case number from Dell's Tech Support. Wink

Thank you.

It's that way inside as well.
My laptop battery died, since it's over a year old, it's out of warranty, so my department has to buy a new one, that's $299 , for a $150 battery.
And the best part, I wont get it until mid June!

Yeah, I'm real productive with a non-portable laptop.

Sit down, find an outlet, hook up brick, powerup, about 25% of the time
the hibernate fails, so I have to do a full reboot, then wait for the wifi to authenticate, ok finally on, oh look the meeting's over, hibernate again,
and off to the next meeting, repeat..

stupid shits. Evil or Very Mad

UPS store can recieve shipments for you. Stop at one across the border and have it shipped there, then go pick it up once it's in.
