Everyone is welcome here. We have a tone of editorial and civil restraint you won't typically find on the internet.

In order to maintain that tone, with the volume of traffic we experience and the volunteer nature of moderators and administrators, we must ask that you observe the restraint characteristic of the board.

When writing about an issue with Dell, you may unleash your anger and even use expletives for emphasis. Before cursing them however, we would ask that you read the Terms & Conditions which came with your purchase, to see if the misunderstanding was one of assumption on your part.

We know that Dell marketing and sales lies and misleads people, and you are perfectly welcome to express your own experience if that happened to you and how you were misled.

In responding to customers who were uninformed or misled, do NOT confront them with their lack of information or understanding. That serves no purpose other than to further alienate them, and demean the tone of the board. Consider your post as talking to a friend. Explain the situation without judgementalism or condescention. Help out whereever you can, with operational suggestions.

Now the hard news. The moderators here are overloaded. We can't individually explain the tone and mission of the board to everyone one at a time. If you are found to be in violation of tone or mission, you will get no more than two warnings before your account is unequivocally closed.

Enjoy, express, help out, but please observe and respect what we're trying to maintain here.

Rocke:

Great post! I've found by and large that on this board everyone seems to be pretty civil which is greatly appreciated. And as for the moderators, on any board or even chat room, being a moderator is a thankless job and many people don't realize the amount of effort that goes into making a forum informative, friendly and open. I for one appreciate it.

I travel a bunch and joined a forum for frequent fliers called Flyertalk.com. It's a great place to find hints and tips on how to manage the "fun" of flying today. However, it's a huge forum and the "regulars" tend to lie in wait for a newbie to ask a question that's been asked before rather than use their search function. It totally inhibits people like myself when you ask something only to be flamed bigtime. So I think you're right on target with what you posted. Keep up the good work....I think people greatly appreciate what goes on here.

We're glad you're onboard, Licky.

I don't aim for this to become a conversational thread though. It is a unilateral statement of policy. I didn't 'lock' it, but at the same time the subject is not open for discussion.

Contributors may voice agreement. Those in doubt may post in open forum or PM to have the subject further delineated. Dissent will not be heard, and will be deleted, so don't even bother.

I'm the farthest thing from a fascist anyone can imagine. But I spent 3 hours today alone straightening out this kind of issue, and I simply don't have the time to do that every gawdam day. Hence the definitive limits and zero-tolerance policy.
