John Lott and David Mustard, in connection with the University of Chicago Law School, examining crime statistics from 1977 to 1992 for all U.S. counties, concluded that the thirty-one states allowing their residents to carry concealed, had significant reductions in violent crime. Lott writes, "Our most conservative estimates show that by adopting shall-issue laws, states reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7% and robbery by 3%. If those states that did not permit concealed handguns in 1992 had permitted them back then, citizens might have been spared approximately 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults and 12,000 robberies. To put it even more simply criminals, we found, respond rationally to deterrence threats... While support for strict gun-control laws usually has been strongest in large cities, where crime rates are highest, that's precisely where right-to-carry laws have produced the largest drops in violent crimes." |
bad people are going to do bad things no matter what.
just because law abiding citizens carry guns, doesnt mean they are going to use them on people or commit crimes.
the VAST majority of gun related crimes are committed by people who would NOT pass the background check needed to obtain a ccw license. |

duabco asked | Quote: | | please find some statistics that show us exactly how many legally carrying people(ccw licensed) have committed crimes like that? or for that matter, have committed any crimes with their guns |
They can't produce those stats. There are none!! To push this point on statistics; there are almost 240,000 legally owned automatic weapons in the United States. That number is almost evenly split between civilian ownership and police departments. Since 1934 it has been illegal for civilians to own an unregistered automatic weapons. Since that time, only two of these legally-owned, registered weapons have been used to kill someone. One of the killers was a police officer using a legally owned weapon. Anti-gun advocates always use phrases that refer to "stats" they can never produce. It is easier to accuse others that way.

"Feelings" are more important than facts. When you "feel" that knife blade slide into your kidney or that steel pipe crush your skull as a bad person doing something bad takes what is yours because he/she is too sorry to work and earn so he/she can buy what they take from you; remember that a gun wasn't used. Remember that as you slowly bleed out on that parking garage pavement or in your parking lot, or in your home. Paranoia has nothing to do with how some us feel. We just believe what is ours is ours. Our family, our home and our lives are worth more than the life of those who want what we have and are not willing to earn it. _________________ rustyboots (i use to slave at dell) |

Top Ten Reasons Why American men prefer Guns to Women
#10. You can trade an old .44 for a new .22.
# 9. You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you're on the road.
# 8. If you admire a friend's gun and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times.
# 7. Your primary gun doesn't mind if you keep another gun for a backup.
# 6. Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.
# 5. A gun doesn't take up a lot of closet space.
# 4. Guns function normally every day of the month.
# 3. A gun doesn't ask, "Do these new grips make me look fat?"
# 2. A gun doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you use it.
And the number one reason a gun is favored over a woman....
#1. YOU CAN BUY A SILENCER FOR A Gun |

| The US has more people behind bars than the rest of the world combined. Perhaps when you're all locked up, you'll stop shooting each other ....... and the rest of the world. |

i'll stick with the old adage that 'guns don't kill people, people kill people'
they'll do it with whatever they have readily available to them, gun, knife, baseball bat, you name it. trust me when i tell you the cops are NOT on your side. i too will do whatever is in my power to protect my wife and kids. anything and everything. the cops will NOT be the first call i place. unless it's to tell them like carl childers, you better send an ambalance and a hearst. _________________ former dell scapegoat |

there was this people called Charles Manson and Jeffrey Dahlmer. you remember those two? neither of these two used guns, nor did any of Manson's followers. so to say everyone is behind bars because of charges dealing with firearms would be a stretch. the fact that the US has more people behind bars could stem from the fact that our judicial system works different than many other countries. we don't cut off the hands of thieves or the dicks of cheating husbands, or...well, you get the idea. No, it's true, you're right. Most people(in the US) are in jail because of a corrupt justice system that targets minorities. |

i feel safer in country where i can protect MYSELF. Get on you tube and watch the film of the lady in Shreveport Louisiana. Thats what happens when cops are out of control.
so a mugger pulled his gun the lady pulled her bigger gun and the mugger fled...sounds like to me her gun saved her money and her life. |

| She was lucky. Statistically, she is more likely to shoot a family member than a criminal. |
