Metrics - it's been a long time coming, but you need to listen to "the metric doers" not the execs who own the metrics. The execs make sure the number look good - they exclude large chunks of data, identify owners of problems (who aren't really the owners, they will simply be the scape goat), there is so much manual manipulations, quite frankly, it a waste of time.
Did you know that when you look at DTC, DTT that there are so many exclusions you're only looking at the orders that are truly manageable?
Wty costs are always under forecasted, otherwise every new product would be a no go.
Did you know that there was a team of people who were against the TV implementation - do you know why? Because of delivery issues, wty issues and Oh, by the way, did you know these same people suggested you work with Block Buster or ??? to install the TV's so people could look and touch them?
Did you know that when customers call into the call center - india, latin am or south am that most of your tech support and cust reps ONLY read from the script they are given. Even if a customer has called in before, they have to go thru all the steps again - can you say waste of everybody's time?
Did you know that groups "regularly" move to different buildings, floors, or areas on the same floor - I mean more than once a year in some cases - talk about down time and the cost of the move???
Or how about the fact that the good ole boys network is still in play in much of DAO // mfg? You have bull&^$ers who don't know what they are doing, have no college degree and they are individual contributors who are D1's - just because they've been there a long time.
Did you know what a waste of time and money 75% of the MBA's are. These kids whine, talk and act "in theory" and don't believe they should have to work more than 7 or 8 hours a day. They don't know how to use excel, and they don't want to know how to use it... they want to only think strategy, but they don't even understand how the business works. _________________ Once upon a time |

Back when I worked for dHell, I went to meetings in the Braker and Brockton buildings and met people who were actually moved JUST A FEW ROWS OVER - because their managers wanted all of their people to be "on the same aisle". The moves naturally disrupted the functioning of these people for 1 or 2 full days; almost all had no PC or network connection during this time, so they couldn't deal with emails, accept or return phone calls, or do what they were actually hired to do.
[sarcasm]
The intelligence of dHell shines as brightly as the Texas afternoon sun.

We built a whole new lab in Braker E, knocking out walls, replacing all the electric drops, even a new supply transformer out in the alley. 6 months later, they abandoned the entire building. 6 months before that, they installed a half-million dollar environmental chamber in Braker G. Then abandoned Braker G. It got to be a joke. Anything they were remodeling, was soon to be abandoned.
They did it again at Research. Built a whole suite for BPI 'school', used it for 3 months, abandoned it. They did it with notebook, twice in a row. Built up Metric, shut it down and moved it to Nashville, shut it down and moved it to China. All within a period of a couple years.
Best I can tell, this company wastes more money than they make. Helluva lot more than their stockholders make from owning it. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

Frequent moves, or moves that really don't make sense are commonplace within Dell. I once saw an entire team move rows to get closer to their Manager, when in reality, it would've been easier to just switch Manager cubicles. However, common sense is non existent inside Dell halls.
Poor planning and execution is what leads to this type of disaster. Their thinkers are all vastly overpaid, and under skilled often operating well outside their intellectual capacities. All problems have solutions, but when your solutions do nothing more than exacerbate the current problem and thus create new ones...
Mismanagement and confined thinking is routine within Dell. Don't be surprised when they do something that makes you shake your head in disbelief. |

In my opinion there are two reasons behind the above quote. Number one: Dell will not pay the salary for MBA's that know a damn thing about business. The 75% mentioned are the ones straight out of school, who have been taught "theory" of business by professors who haven't worked in the 30 years. They couldn't run a paper route much less a real business.
Number two: the MBA's hired by Dell are of todays generation. They don't want jobs, they want POSITIONS. Jobs mean work, positions mean telling others what to do even if you have no earthly clue what is going on.
Just my humble opinion. _________________ rustyboots (i use to slave at dell) |

Our entire floor was instructed to move every team 4 times a year by Senior management just to prevent them from getting too comfortable.....actual words used......
It was universallly hated by the agents as well as SLs....
Huge mess.....systems down.....equipment failure....RS support staff unable to find agents....etc, etc..... |

Yeah, God forbid agents and employees actually get comfortable at work. Can't have that. That would be just wrong.

The average move costs about $500 for each employee. Just to have the contractors come in and pack up and move the stuff, and have the IT people and the telephone people do their thing. Ridiculous! Especially for people who "work from home" - yeah, right! They're not working! We're here, working our butts off, and their home watching TV drinking beer. That's crap! _________________ Movin On! |
