The thread has turned frivolous, but there's no policy against frivolity per se. It burns itself out and goes away.
Incivility, even in terms of inside jokes, makes the site unpleasant for visitors (who aren't "in on it") and thus will not be tolerated.
I'm not being a hardass. But we have a tone here that the majority of users appreciates, and it is my job to keep conversation within the bounds of that tone.

Yes - lets stop the bashing and get back to the real questions...
1) What's next?
2) Are we done / No more lay offs? (OK I know the answer to that one  )
3) Where are we now in the temrs of the 10% promised lay off?
4) Will there be more at end of quater?
5) In the mean time what do we do?
6) Do we have to always look over our shoulder for the friendly tap?

1. Expect a downward spiral from which Dell will likely never recover from, thus leading to more layoffs and bad choices.
2. No on both counts. Not by a long shot.
3. Using estimates and numbers provided around the internet, I'd hazard a guess at 8% so far.
4. Yes. Count on that. This next wave will be reflected on next year's tally so they have the flexibility and breathing room to accomplish it.
5. Put your head in the sand like the rest, or between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.
6. No. It won't even be THAT easy. It's too well known now, so expect more of a call or email asking for a meeting ASAP then you get walked. |

This is coming from the same man that in 2001 said that there were not going to be any layoffs and then two weeks later, the heads started rolling. I suggest you re-read my signature and listen to what it says not DHell (mis)management.

I don't know about a speech, but here's an article quoting Don Carty on the layoffs.
Here's the important part: During a call with analysts, Donald Carty, Dell's chief financial officer, explained that the company actually reduced its head count by 5,300 positions but then reassigned or hired 2,100 employees to other positions, including customer support.
"We clearly have a lot more to do with cost," Carty said during the call, adding that he was confident that Dell would reduce the work force by about 8,800 employees." |
