So I guess it's been a year since I bought my xps 710, and someone from an overseas call center called me today to tell me that my warranty was expiring.

He said it was like $250 to get 2 years more warranty.

Should I get it?

Ten years ago, the answer would be unequivocally 'no'. Waste of money.

Given Dell's reliability record since then, extending the warranty is probably a good idea.

arg I hate having to pay MORE money for this piece of crap - for the amount of interest I'm paying they should give me an extended warranty until the day it's paid off for no charge.

See if you can find a provision for doing that on their website. Dell won't do much for you over the phone but lie.

Use a credit card. If you have an account with Dell, close it, they are nothing but trouble. Among other things, fraudulent charges and identity theft from within Dell.

if you dont intend to change notebook or whom has someone to be given away, its a good idea.
but be prepared for more frustrations! alternatively if you have an axe to grind with them . . . do it and have fun!
