Ah I see. The I'm more important than you because I think I am .Pretty pompous of you rusty. Considering that Ottawa was staffed by a 1000 average joes, and yes even a few best and brightest. There were some ( and they were few) who knew their stuff, did their best for every customer, and excelled. You have no idea who biffs buddy is but you feel you are somehow in some way in your brain better than him. Yup very pompous indeed. Dipsh*t.

WOW!! Such cynicism and anger. I must have hit a lot of raw nerves on a couple of you by simply stating that someone didn't have the stones to say "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS".
I never thought I was better than anyone else, and never said so. Oh well, anything I say seems to be 5th grade level or egotistical, so I guess no more until I can figure out whether I am a fifth grade dropout, or an egotistical dipsh**.

Y'all cut out throwing spitballs at each other. That's not what we're here for.

I'm not even logging in on who is right. But I do know Rusty and he is not a 5th-grade anything. Nobody here is. You can't work for Dell with a 5th-grade education, and any assertion to the contrary falls outside the bounds of editorial license on the part of the poster.

The rest of you, I don't know. Who you are, or who you think you are, is irrelevant. We value our contributors, and we don't allow them to demean each other.

Red text = Board policy statement.

I don't want to hear any backtalk about 'who started it' either. And BTW, MY penis is bigger. If in doubt, whup it out. Twisted Evil

Is this the latest article from AAS about the possibility of layoffs?
http://www.statesman.com/business/content/business/stories/technology/02/29/0229dell.html

Quote:
The company on Thursday reported lower-than-expected profit and revenue for its fiscal fourth quarter, and executives said they still have a lot of heavy lifting to do to reduce costs and return Dell to the levels of profitability that once led the PC industry.

Among the tasks yet to achieve: thousands of layoffs and widespread cuts both in operating expenses and production costs.

Quote:
Dell announced in May plans to cut 10 percent of its work force over the course of 12 months. Though the company has cut 5,300 jobs since the announcement — many coming as the fourth quarter was winding down — it also hired 2,100 employees in what it calls "front-line" positions. Excluding jobs added through acquisitions, Carty said, Dell still expects to hit its target of 8,800 job cuts worldwide.

"Let me be very clear: We are going to hit that 8,800," Carty said. "It may take us a little longer than we originally expected."

Dell employed 88,200 people as of Feb. 1, when its fiscal year ended. . That was down about 800 jobs from the same time last year

So we are still looking at a count of 8,000 more??? In the midst of layoffs, getting rid of hard working people (There are exceptions of course) - Some who have been at Dell a long time... probably making some good salaries and we are still hiring...

See a job posted just last week:

http://www.careerbuilder.com/JobSeeker/Jobs/JobDetails.aspx?Job_DID=J3F70M72V6JS5XKSVK9&siteid=cb_emailjob_US

So with this in mind I again have to ask - why would we still be hiring if we still have plans to remove 8,000 more...

My only thought is that we are getting rid of the people making the money and re-hiring the next day someone off the street making ½ the amount...

Good sound financial plan... bad plan for the experience we need to forge through an already decimated areas... unless keeping experience is not the plan...

Is this normal for companies to bail on the dedicated employees and move onto other un-suspecting newbies... do these newbies know what they are getting into? When they have tenure... don't they realize history will repeat itself...

It is getting harder and harder to stay loyal...

Padawan, why in the hell would you ever consider being loyal to Dell, when time and time again they have shown nothing in the way of loyalty towards you or your fellow coworkers? Loyalty, like trust, must be earned. So tell me ... has Dell earned your loyalty?

Dell has done me good in the past... years of good raises and stock options.... (please hold the laughter on tha last part - I know toilet paper is worth more) But the Good days have changed slowly since 2005 and has snowballed to the present... Loyalty from Dell was something I felt in the past... now I am not sure...

First off... I'm new here but not to DELL/HELL. I work at the Ottawa/Kanata/Middle-Of-Nowhere site. I've seen good people let go... too many of them. Meanwhile, the upper management incompetants are still around. I've seen good SLs given the boot because they cost too much and good agents layed off because they gave a crap about CE. Bonuses are still coming folks... will we last until then? How much time does DELL Ottawa really have. Everything I've seen and heard indicates 6-9 months. DELL keeps falling short of it's revenue goals... gee, wonder why? Perhaps the Speed of DELL has something to do with it. The speed of DELL is a sure sign of lack of leadership, direction and any kind of brains. If I was a share holder I'd be demanding Mikey's head on a platter right about now.
I can't wait for this madness to end. I give myself a few more weeks there before I end up punching someone out, telling off a customer or going postal.
As far as loyalty goes... DELL has shown us the way... loyalty is for wimps. Screw them. It's a paycheck and nothing more.

Angel, the customer is the real victim here and deserves your expert support to try to make the best of a bad situation. If we as techs lose that desire to help these victims, we become part of the machine we detest so much.

That said, providing that support will surely put your head on the block. As for punching out managers, are you taking orders? Perhaps you can beat one of them with their own "Little wagon of CRAP".

Dell will close Ottawa before Canada Day, so be sure and take your vacation early.

If Dell and it's Chinese suppliers are knowingly defrauding people out of their money with crap (420), does that constitute a conspiracy to commit fraud?

I was on the XPS tech support in Roseburg when they shut our site down. They replaced us with people in Panama and Canada because the Canadians were cheaper.

And now all the Canadians are being laid off and they're hiring in Salt Lake to do our jobs supporting Canadian customers, because Canadian techs aren't cheap to maintain anymore. Tech support has again returned to the US (but I dunno for how long). I`m not bitter - in fact I`m looking forward to the day I`ll be laid off - that`ll be very soon... Smile
