So, you think you have a sales job with Dell? Have you ever really done the math on your compensation or compared it to ANY other "sales" job??? Let's look at a basic example: Dell says you get paid a "base salary" (harhar) of $40,000 per year. And let's also say your "commisssion plan" is $20,000. Now, let's assume your quota is $6,000,000 per year (probably low for most Dell sales people). Your total comp (base + commission) is only 1% ($60k = 1% of $6 million) of your gross sales! That includes your bogus "base salary." That's not a base - it's an advance on your commission.
That may be hilarious - but's it's definitely NOT a SALES job. Most decent sales jobs provide a real base PLUS a percentage of sales, usually far in excess of 1%! It's difficult to imagine ANY other business where you produce $6 million in sales and you gat paid $60,000 (maybe - only if you jump through all the other childish hoops they require). Most other sales jobs also don't play games with quotas (usually by raising them to some ridiculous number) EVERY THREE MONTHS in order to try to confuse how you get paid. Oh, but wait - they force the vendors to pay for lunch every week and you get to stand in line like a bunch of dummies begging for free food. Yeah, that's a GREAT deal. Hooray. The $10 gift cards to Bed Bath and Beyond for bringing in $100k in revenue are really fantastic incentives too. Thanks - I get SO excited about that!!! It's so much better than being treated with respect, decency, fairness. Have a mentioned the managers yet??? Oh, they are really a joy too.
