This seems to be Dell's new MO for getting rid of people and trying to avoid any potential lawsuits for wrongful termination. Texas is a right to work state in other words right to fire but if Dell were to can only long-term older, more experienced, higher paid people with stock options (of course at this time most which are WORTHLESS!) and more vacation they might have a little "issue" on their hands. So if they work to find people who are a minute late they can warn them, write them up and fire them. Or whatever nit-picking thing they want to focus on they can put you on a PIP. Keep in mind these things are NUMEROUS; failure to meet unrealistic numbers, taking/making personal phone calls, sending/receiving personal emails, internet use at work, tardy to work or returning from lunch, long breaks, inappropriate joke, conflict of interest (selling some old personal computers on ebay or Craig's List) and that's just to name a few! Basically if your name is on a target list they're going to get you. These days you can run but you can not hide. The next week or so is going to be an extremely stressful time as a majority of people are just sitting and waiting for the dreaded call, email or your manager searching you out for a "quick one on one"! Best advice might be to be prepared, don't get caught blindsided like some people do. Pack up and take home personal items and/or information that might help you in your fight for unemployment or severance. Good luck to all and don't forget about all of the people that have said life after Dell ain't so bad! |

I have to agree with this. Dell has been basically using tactics to assassinate employees in what appears to be a marvelous way of shaping it's direction. For instance, the Roseburg site shutting down after a lawsuit was initiated by one of their currently employed employees. They knew they couldn't fire those in the spot light, so they eliminated the site to cause the separation.
That company is scared of being exposed and I recommend everyone that can, join the lawsuit. I believe the only prerequisites were to be part of it in the last 5 years or so. You got nothing to lose now that you are not controlled by them.

There's nothing new about putting people on a PIP as a prelude to kicking them out the door; Dell has been doing that since the early 1990s. It's just their way of doing a "rank and yank" corporate performance review: every year 3 to 5% pf Dell employees get assigned an "F", are put on a PIP and terminated 60 days later so that Dell can weasel out of paying unemployment. |
