What the hell? Surprised I suddenly can't access the Welcome To IhateDell.net forum! Why? I've been coming here for a long while and I have always been able to access that forum. When I first came here, I read that forum right away to orient myself. What is that forum for if members, especially newbies, here can't read it? Sad

Might as well do away with the forum if members are blocked from accessing it. Why in the world would only moderators be allowed to access it? DUH.

Don't worry about the new owner getting pissed if you fix it. If he does, tell him we members here will explain the facts to him.

I really don't know what Rocke is afraid about, I if it were up to me I would have fixed it long time ago.

I don't like prowling around inside the interface, it's anything but intuitive and there's no instructions/help files. Not to mention time-consuming, takes about 10 min just to get in and out of it. And there are several layers of permissions, the one you're changing isn't clearly defined. That's probably how it got changed in the first place, by mistake.

Owner gave me the p'word so I would STOP contacting him to get serial spammers banned. And he implied that was as far as my authority went. I've only changed settings twice, judging both clearly in the best interests of the forum. Once, inserting Google keywords into the index page text (it didn't seem to have helped, I think it takes metatags of which I have no grasp). Once, giving hotrodlincoln permission to delete spam in all forums, since many days he's the only other moderator in evidence here besides me and I can't do it all. I'm not going to tinker with something that is A) working, and B) marginally over my head.

So that's where we stand. Tellya what, I will PM him--only contact point I have--and tell him about the situation.

Update: The problem was reported back to me this afternoon as 'fixed'. Thanks for bringing it up.

Thanks Paul. It's on my resume, but I still can't get a job.

Good! I see it is fixed. I can get in there. Now we need some activity in that forum. Wink

I figured it was probably some dumb screwup as why would the owner intentionally keep members, especially new ones, from that forum? I thought if I posted about it and the owner saw it that he would fix it or tell you to fix it (I knew from earlier comments you've made that the navigating and doing anything inside is difficult but I didn't realize there wasn't even any help or directions of some sort for how to do things).

This is a damn good site. I think this new owner should take more interest in this site and should at least give you some kind of help in fixing things and more authority to do so. If he has paid the slightest attention to this site by reading it he should know that you, Rocke, are the backbone of the site and are entirely trustworthy! As for the Google thing, it is metatags I think and I don't know about them either. It would sure be nice if some one who reads this site and who knows could educate you so this site would get more exposure, higher ranking with Google.

Thanks, Mele.

I just Googled Dell +complaints, we're at the top of page 4 of 1/2M hits, and indeed it highlights the keywords I inserted, so that's doing something.

Thing is, there are a LOT of Dell complaints--news sites, magazine sites, consumer sites, other generic complaint blogs, the New York attorney general--and that's likely as anything why this site is no longer on page 1 like it was back when not everyone was complaining about Dell.

You already have metatags in your source code:
<META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="I hate, Dell, Computer, sucks, disgruntled, employee, customer, complaints, americas, largest, pc, manufacturer, servers, laptops, sales, repair, waranty, personal, computer, gateway, ibm, intel, amd, free, forum, workplace, manager, people, job, review, layoffs, pink slips, human resources, computers hewelitt packard, compaq, server, guns at work, job hater, piss on dell, fuck dell, windows, xp, aol, hard drive, memory, fired, hp printers, america online, michael dell, dell sucks">
<META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="I hate Dell Computers is a free online forum for Dell employees and customers to voice there opinions on Dell Computer Corporation. Disgruntled employee rants are entertaining and customer complaints are funny to read.">

Adding metatags will only do so much...the search engine spiders have indexed you already or you would not be appearing even as high on the list as you are....the only way to get to the top of the list is megabucks.....not metatags......lol

"Have I mentioned lately that Dell sucks??"

Thanks, thanks. Seems like a lot of clutter, few of which a customer or researcher would type as a keyword.

I guess my index-page keywords are as effective as anything. And that, considering how many entities are complaining about Dell, we're #30 out of 524,000.
