I placed an order for a computer and printer back on JULY 20th for my daughter to start off her first year of college. As of today she still doesn't have the computer or printer. I have been getting the run around for weeks and I would like to know if my order was even started. I was promised several delivery dates and the message still has it in the boxing stage. I want to know if her computer is actually completed or not. The Dell computer she took from home now has to be sent back to Dell because it's not working. My daughter is now without any computer and she is extremely upset. I need an answer and I need one NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has mess up everything for her. If I would have been told it would take two months to get this computer I would not have placed the order to begin with. I have tried to speak with someone to get a straight answer but I guess Dell isn't able give their customers the information they need. I am so fed up with all the lies and now my daughters life is in total disarray. To top things off, I have to pay for copies she prints out and now I have to pay for her to use the computer lab. The lab also has limited hours. PLEASE GIVE ME AN ACTUAL SHIPPING DATE SO I CAN GIVE MY DAUGHTER SOME PIECE OF MIND.
DELL SUCK!!!!!!!!!! I am so pissed off and fed up they are giving us bull shit just to make us happy so we keep our order. One person can not make a differnence all they want to do it make money. |

This is an "industry wide" issue according to Dell...which we all know is bullshit.
Your best bet, IF you want a system that may be ready to go, is to get a Vostro. Those seem to be the only systems that are actually shipping these days.
That is assuming you still want to deal with Dell. If not, I'm sure no one here would be surprised. |

Have to be honest with you if dell are screwing with you so much now, what do you think it will be like when you get the machine and need tech support or a new part..... get to your local best buy/circuit city and go and buy one there.
I have a friend who has been waiting 7 weeks now for her notebook, Dell it seems have a problem getting LCD's. |

Pyro,
Two suggestions. First, cancel the unshipped order right now and use the money to purchase a computer from either a retail chain or a local "white box" dealer. You will definitely get a better customer service experience from either of these two choices. Second, you will have better luck and satisfaction if you find someone local to repair the broken computer at least it will not get misplaced at the depot or lost by DHL and it will definitely get repaired.
If you need to order from Dell though, DO NOT get the Vostro line. Manufacturing is having the same issue with the paint jobs that happened when the first white chassis systems were run. AKA, heavy breathing near the chassis can cause the paint to flake off.
Finally, I have been sitting on this bit of information for a while now, but I guess I will share it. As you already know, TMC manufacturing has been having part shortage issues (specifically with processors and flat panel monitors). I do not have any information about the processor shortage, but the line that we got from the management team last quarter was that Dell had used up all of it's scheduled flat panel monitors for the year and that procurement was working on get more. I heard an interesting story from sources in Round Rock that told me something different though. I was told that Dell had failed to pay their bills with the flat panel monitor supplier and the supplier stepped in a seized all current shipments until the bills were paid up. I am not sure which story is true, but I can tell you that we were out of flat panels for almost two weeks during mid to late June. _________________ Q: How do you know Dell Management is lying to you?

Apathy, according to a news tidbit that was recently posted, Dell just "didn't plan very well" and this has zero to do with any shortage.
Therefore, the story about Dell getting orders seized until paid seems the most likely. |

Fallen,
I agree that the shortage story was BS, but I believe that Dell's suppliers have realized that there is a substantial demand in the market for their products. Combine this with Dell's "fall from grace" over the last year and you get suppliers that have decided that if Dell tries to "low ball" them on price, services or something else, then they will take their products to someone else in the market.
I have heard rumors from Dell contractors that when their contracts come up for renewal next year. They will be putting in bids based on what will help their business survive and prosper and not what Dell will be demanding the price be set at. It seems that Dell has burned way too many bridges with a lot of different companies. _________________ Q: How do you know Dell Management is lying to you?
