|
|
With apologies if this is in the wrong forum....
I recently read that Dell, Inc is actually a holding company, and all the manufacturing, sales, etc are done via its subsidiaries. That's not unusual, but I'm quite curious about which entity we deal with, since they all use the trademark "Dell".
Are there any links that describe what activities are performed by each of the US subsidiaries?? (The annual report and SEC filings don't tell you.)
Specifically:
*when you log onto Dell's website, and order a computer, which subsidiary is selling it to you?
*which subsidiary manages the kiosks and/or the Dell Stores? When you order a computer at a kiosk, which subsidiary is selling it to you?
Any info would be appreciated.

We used to have an MBA here who could answer this better than I can. When I worked there, my checks didn't say 'Dell Engineering LLC' they just said Dell Computer Corporation and later Dell Inc.
Operations are somewhat divided by line-of-business (business, home, enterprise), and financially there may indeed be subsidiaries (for the sake of book juggling) but if so it's a closely-held secret and they are never publicly named. The public exception is Dell Financial (LLP, I think) which is a subsidiary partnership with CIT Financial whereby Dell acquires the accounts and CIT administers them.
Anyone know otherwise? _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

That is correct (Dell has said so in some of its filings). For that matter, any invoice (for any product or service) should state the "legal person" who is the vendor. (For ex., if you order a pc online, the invoice is usually from "Dell Catalog Sales LP".) However, that doesn't help me figure out which entity is providing which service, since I don't do business with any of them. ;-( |

| In EMEA we are now using the Global Principal, all revenues are going somewhere to Asia country, I think Malaysia. The reason is 0% taxes on the profit earned. |

Much as I'd like to blame this on W Bush, it's Congress letting lobbyists write trade law that makes it happen.
Which leads me to conclude that Timothy McVeigh had the right idea, just the wrong building. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist
