Some happened today .I hear more are coming tomm. Does anyone know how many ppl got affected today ?

Laidoffs have hit the Ottawa region in Canada. Just let a few go looks like more to come tomorrow.

Layoffs in Ottawa? Wasn't Ottawa the city that was supposed to be opening a second site?

I heard the same, however my friend told me a bunch of managers were laid off today. Might be more tomorrow. I asked him about the other building and he said he heard it was going to be leased out to someone else. Very interesting...good news for investors...bad news for those who were laidoff.

I work at the Ottawa site. I can confirm the layoffs are happening in Ottawa, managers and L2s so far, but looks like more to come. A couple of AMs demoted down to SLs also. Despite the generally positive start in general the site's degenerated into a real cesspool to work at since January. Right now they wont talk about whats going in the second building, pretty much most of our 'Best of Breed' ACS department is being forced to take XPS calls which no-one wants to do, so the attrition is going through the roof. They said to begin with it would open in July, then September and now its supposed to be February. They're all pretty evasive when you try and ask management what LOB is going to be there.

I don't think the rumor that its going to be leased out and not used by Dell once its completed is so far fetched. That plus the rising Canadian dollar means that Ottawa is no longer the el cheapo option Dell thought it would be.

Don't expect the Ottawa area to open a second center anytime soon. With the movements coming from inside as you say they are, added with attrition for bogus XPS calls being routed to you now, likely among other things, a second center in Ottawa would be suicide.

They'll have a hard enough time trying to fill ONE site, let alone 2.

There's also been a somewhat significant series of moves from Edmonton as well lately. No one has let slip that it is or isn't part of the 10% factor, but then, they may be forced not to say anything. Personally, I find it odd and more than a coincidence that we seem to be losing a lot of key people during this time.

For now though, no reports have come out that Edmonton will be affected. I heard a couple new LOB's will be moving in shortly, so they may not be affected at all if that's the case.
