I have an Inspiron 6000.
What does that mean, exactly? Is there any way to get my computer back into working order without restoring it? I've googled and it said something about a partition isn't loading. Will I definitely have to restore?

Also, if I do have to restore, can I connect the drive thru an ide/sata cable to transfer the files? I have an ide/state to usb 2.0 cable, but it doesn't seem to fit the pins on my laptop.

You can get IDE/SATA cables that you can use with laptop drives.. sounds like you might not have one of those.. or you're not taking the pin-to-motherboard adapter off before checking.

If it's not loading the PBR (Primary boot record) that means that there's probably something wrong with it. You may not necessarily be able to get the data back off of it without repairing it.

Follow the instructions here:

Somehow it fixed itself...I don't know what did it.
I did the Diagnostics and everything came back fine. I took out the HD and connected it to another computer via the IDE/STATA to usb cable and transferred all my files. That took about 24 hours. Then yesterday, to test it one more time to see if maybe it'll work, it worked!
I was ready to restore the whole thing, but somehow started working again.

Thanks for the link. I saved it and will read thru the whole thing just incase it gives me the error again.
