Hi,

I was provided a Dell Inspiron E5105 to replace the 5160 which had overheating problems and motherboard failure.

The company sent me "a like or upgraded replacement." According to thier records, I was sent an E1505 with Windows Vista Home Premium. The system performed incredibly slow. I found that the system only came 1GB of RAM. This should have been fine except I did not receive Vista Home Premium. I received Windows Vista Business, which requires 2GB of RAM.

The representatives who put the system together did not know that production had goofed. The managers refused to upgrade the RAM because they did not know about the production error.

I filed a complaint with the TN Attorney General. Shirley Wells calls me back and is asking for proof that I was sent the wrong OS. I sent her a picture of the sticker from the underside of the computer. I sent her pictures of the RAM packages and credit card reciepts supporting the purchase.

They refuse to compensate me for the $300 it cost to fix their error.

I want to be reimbursed for having to pay the money to upgrade my RAM.

Any thoughts on who I can contact to get the issue resolved?

Thanks,

Brian McBride

Welcome to the forum. You've already spent the money I take it. You might have been able to send the replacement back on the basis it was incorrect, but that won't get you the $300 back. Did you buy memory from a vendor who accepts returns? (That wouldn't be Dell.)

The Director of Customer Experience (of latest record I have) is dick_hunter at dell.com. Only one of his immediate subordinates has the authority to do anything for you, none of the phone people do.

Erm.. can't you just call tech support and fake a software problem, tell them you dont have the discs, and have them send you Vista Home? Or even better, XP?

Yep. Vista is trash and now it is causing what may be the early demise of XP which is a far more distressing situation. But what does this have to do with the OP's problem?

I would not have bought the extra RAM for the 'puter. You could've went to the Unresolved Issues link on Dell's website where an American would have contacted you and you probably would've either:

A. Gotten the RAM you needed to run Vista Business

or

B. Gotten a copy of Vista Home Premium

Now, if you scream Dell probably will be like this:

"As for as we see it, the only thing we owe you is Vista Home Premium 'cause we acknowledge the goof Production made. But we will not reimburse you the $300. Cause when you load Vista Home Premium on the computer, it will just fine with the 1GB configuration.

Sir, have a nice day. Smile"

Then you'll start doing what my Avatar is doing.

Actually, I used the "Unresolved Issues" link and it was someone from India that contacted me - via e-mail. The issue did get resolved, though, but only with e-mails back and forth... enjoy...

Who told you that? You need to see this.

I agree Vista is trash. I bought a Acer laptop. I UPGRADED it to Windows XP Professional. Its my opion that ALL laptops should have XP Professional. All home Bussiness computers should have XP Professional. And people that have several computers for a home network like me the main computer should have XP Professional.

The "Unresolved Issues" link at the base of each Dell page is actually quite beneficial. More customers need to familiarize themselves with that approach if all else seems to fail.
