I have an Inspiron 9100 an Inspiron E1505 and an Optiplex 745. I am in search of a video card for either inspiron systems (a cheaper alternative than calling dell).

I also have a Optiplex 745 and Dell doesnt even sell a different video card with the system other than ATI. Well my experience with ATI has shown me that ATI performs poorly for what I am doing and I need an NVIDIA card.

Are there any alternative for NVIDIA cards in either Inspiron system?

As far as the laptops go, you're pretty much SOL. Laptop parts are highly proprietary, except for the CPUs and Memory.

Depending on the form factor of your Optiplex, you should be able to pop in a standard PCIe nVidia card. If you have one of the small-form-factor boxes, you'll have to find a low-profile card, like this one, but they are definately available.

Well they do have interchangeable video cards (trust me I have had to go into the system before).

Yes, the cards are interchangeable.. but no, they are not interchangeable with anything other than Dell branded parts (on the laptops.)

You should be able to put any PCIe compatible video card in the Optiplex, however.

Oh, and i'm sure i've gone into them way more often than you have... and gotten paid for it. Wink

For the 9100:

Part# Desc
G5117 256MB Video Card, Radeon 9800 (M18)
U1202 128MB Video Card, Radeon 9700 (M11)
T1765 64MB Video Card, Radeon 9700 (M11)

For the 1505:
WF147 128meg Radeon X1300
WF148 256meg Radeon X1400
NJ788 256meg nVidia 7300GS

It appears that you CAN get an nVidia card for your 1505. That is, of course, provided your 1505 has the add-on video in the first place. If you have the built in Intel video chip, you're SOL and need to upgrade your motherboard before you can even accept one of these boards.
