I did not used to be. In March 2002 I got my first Dell. My first computer I was able to get online with. The Dell dude inspired me to buy a Dell.
At that time, Dell took E-Checks. I got my computer 3 days later. It was buggy, and I had to reformat. (the keyboard would not type out the right letters)
A few months later, I got a memory chip. E-Check
Then I went to buy a hard-drive. No more E-Checks allowed. I don't have a credit card (and I don't want one, they are a ripoff with the interest and service charges. Why should I pay more than what the item costs?) So, I had to send the check in the mail.
OK, no problem. I checked on my order the next day or two. IT WAS CANCELED!!!!!! Dell had a ridiculous policy that if they don't get payment the next day (I believe) they cancel your order. I had to reorder after they got my check. That is stupid!! I am sure Dell does this so you will use a credit card, or use DFS so they can make even MORE money.
A Debit card is fine, I got one later. The problem is, mine is limited to $500 a day.
SOOOOOO when I went to purchase a laptop, I found this out. So, I had to send a check by overnight mail so my order would not get canceled.
Dell does not seem to WANT to sell computers to people. Dell acts like it's a "privilege" to buy a computer from them.
And don't get me started on customer service. And tech help. _________________ Dell Forum owes me 2500+ posts!!!

Whatever you do, don't use DFS. Borrow the money from a drug dealer. They 1)have a phone that is answered in English, 2)have stable interest rates, not 'promise you zero percent and charge you 30', 3)won't turn you over to a collection agency over something you didn't buy. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

Most debit cards have the Mastercard/Visa logo, which allows you to use them as a Mastercard or Visa, without the limit of the debit (limits are usually only for transactions where you have to input your PIN, if you're signing you can get as much as you want).
If that's not an option, i would suggest something like what diamondcard.com offers. For a nominal fee, its an interest-free prepayed credit card. |

Perhaps PayPal also will work.
As for components, such as HDD and memory, you can get much better deals for better quality components through a third party or reseller. I prefer newegg [www.newegg.com] _________________ "The art of Engineering is knowing what you can safely ignore." -Dr. H. Hess

| I think the reason Dell likes credit cards is the collection of the money is turned over to someone else...and they get the money right away insatead of having to wait for you to pay it (like they would with checks)...Just like with outsourcing, they can get someone else to do it...or I could be wrong...I would take this as a sign and never buy a Dell again. |
