Exactly. Its the exact same way with Qualxserv.

The entire industry needs to change if you want a good tech who is not overly concerned with time to show up at your home or business.

I am LUCKY if I have enough time to say hello to you as I whip by you to get to your machine and fix it before my meter runs out. Let alone call India if something goes wrong.

Although I gotta say I have been getting Mississippi most of the time and those guys and gals flat out rock!

Every field tech I know loves the work and dislikes the company they work for. Every single one of them!!

Maybe Dell could buy the QXS and Banctec but who's to say that would make it any better.

I think they would save money by eliminating the middle man and we could make more money and care about our work again.

Although who's to say it would go that way.

Just noting, Banctec and Unisys are corpses of failed companies. They're little different than mafiosi now, leeching off people's work, paying them marginally, owning no assets, taking as little responsibility for anything as they possibly can. No offices, no trucks, no inventory, just one employee (hell, he's probably a contractor too, doing it in his spare time) and a phone/data line in any given region.

Some of you might remember Sperry, Remington, Burroughs--early leaders in mainframe hardware when IBM was making typewriters and master/slave clocks--they merged/bought each other into Unisys. No telling what they were thinking, I think defense contracting was mentioned, but their core competencies scattered to the wind and they were left with--well, what you see today. They had occupied buildings and ads in the paper in San Jose when I was there in 1989, long since abandoned.

Banctec, a division of Control Data (defunct computer giant, where Cray worked), invented and built the magnetic ink check readers that every bank in the world uses. You'd think that would have assured their survival, but faulty management can scuttle the most brilliant enterprise.

Thanks for visiting the Corporate Mausoleum, check back soon, we're always adding crypts.

The Banctec that does Dell repairs has a division that is still a major player in the banking equipment field. Banctec as a whole is profitable. Sadly Banctec is wholly owned by Welsh Carson Anderson and Stowe. How WCAS came to own Banctec resulted in Lawsuits. Unfortunately they could afford to pay for better lawyers. Just let it rest that they are a bunch of under handed, blood sucking leaches. On judgement day they will get their due.

JAChandler how stupid can you be to go to a different country for fieldwork and you didn't even bother to test your equipment first?!? You should have someone else, maybe a real Tech/Camera person to run the apparently complicated computer and camera gear for you. You deserved the results you got. If you're going to own and use technology, bloody well learn how to make it work before attempting to use it away from home.

I'd say the observations in this letter are pretty accurate...But the reason the front line reps don't care about customers is because Dell doesn't care...It's hard to care about something when the person giving you the paycheck doesn't care either, and forces you to do things which are designed to milk the customer out of as much money as possible...Or prevent them from getting their money's worth.
