I think it is time Dell should go back to the good old days...

Yes folks, this is a Dell that was made in the good ol' USA! And yes, it STILL WORKS!! Can't say that about all dells made these days...

Don't some of the portables still say "Made in the USA" on them ? I know that Dell won a lawsuit that enabled them to claim that the flashing of the BIOS and installation of a programmed drive made "significant improvement" to the system and thereby "Made in the USA".

I'm not sure there is anything Dell can do to improve.

Dell can improve in one simple way:

By going back to using standard PSU's, and improving their customer support!

If they did that, i'd go back to them tomorrow!

Enough said!

On the Dimension e510 and on the Dimension 4700 and [probably] on the computers in between, Dell uses a standard power supply in the computer. I think they did this so that they could just use the standard Intel mobo design without an modification.

The power supply is a standard one. How is it not?

Dell used to have a proprietary wiring scheme or plud to prevent users from using a non-modified standard PSU in the Dell system. They stopped doing that, thankfully, as I was able to just drop in my new power supply.
