| I'm so glad I found this site- I really HATE DELL!!! I have a desktop that's no more than three years old and I started having problems with it the second week! Sometimes when I click the "print" icon, nothing will happen unless you restart the computer. I called customer service, and after being re routed to India, I was told that this happens sometimes and to continue rebooting it! WTF? Next whenever my computer would go into the "idle" mode it would lock up and I would have to flip the power button on my surge protector over and over to get it back on. When I was connected to India again I couldn't understand the operator and they couldn't understand me! I was finally put in touch with some woman named Rachel who sent me a new motherboard- but guess what? It doesn't work either! So now I can't play cds of any kind, it still doesn't print correctly, and sometimes when I'm connected to the internet- the connection will suddenly disconnect. Is it just me or did anybody else see Dells advertisements for technicians coming to your home? Well where the hell are those guys or do they need a passport to get here?! |

Ah yes, the notorious 'technicians coming to your home'. As I just wrote in an adjacent thread, Dell figured out that once they got your money, they could argue or wheedle you out of all that 'other stuff you thought you were getting'. And if you argue back, they put you on hold for 45 minutes then hang up.
Dell is 85% focused on institutional sales, where someone who knows computers gets a different number to call, answered by a more knowledgeable person whose mission is 'solve the problem'.
Dell is <10% focused on individual system sales, largely to keep that market share from going to HP--not because they 'want' individual customers. The number they give you to call, is designed to make you wish you hadn't. Works great, doesn't it?
Once they've got your money, and know you're not buying 2000 systems, they just want you to go away.
Oh, the 'technician coming to your home'? Well, the fine print says: YOU will do whatever nonsense the person on the phone tells you to do, no matter how long it takes or whether you can understand them or not, until their automated script says to replace a part. Then the part will be mailed by a logistics contractor who has no obligation to you whatsoever, to an installation contractor who has no obligation to you whatsoever, to be installed. Of course, by then you have already taken the system apart except for a few screws, like the phone person told you.
The guy who comes to your house is a deliveryman with a screwdriver. Even if he knows what he's doing, he has to go through the same procedure and do what the phone person says next. Even if he knows it won't work.
That give you a few datapoints as to the status of individual customers at Dell? _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

| Thanks for the feedback- I reallly wish I hadn't gotten roped into buying this computer. I guess I'll have to chalk it up as a lost and get something else. Any suggestions on what may be a better brand? |
