Yeah, so I heard its the latest and greatest thing to come from Intel, but like most computer related stuff, its pretty confusing!
I've got a few questions, if anyone knows the answers, please share
1) The basic Core 2 Duo is 1.86GHz, Will this outperform my 3.4GHz Pentium 4?
2) Core 2 Duo has 4MB Cache How is this, in any way better then then 2MB on my Pentium 4, and what performance gains does it offer?
3) Dell locks EMT64 in its XPS Bios Does this mean the Core 2 Duos will not support Windows Vista 64Bit?
4) The high-end Core 2 Duo is 2.93GHz How is this better then say a 3.73GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition?
Im not the best with Processors, but I hope I made the questions simple and understandable.
Thanks in advance _________________

Ok yes it rocks and heres your answers.
1. Yes and no really it depends on what you use it for. Games yes!
2.The higher models have 4mb cache and yes it is better since it is shared and thats how the cores communicate between each other on your old p4 they used the fsb which was slower then the x2 athlons. The performance gains are slim for games but for multimedia apps they are huge!(Atleast 10%)
3.No they will just not on a dell since you said its locked and the chipset needs to be up to date.
4.Dude the e6400 kills an fx-62 while it massacres the 3.73 ghz Pentium D
5. Dude if you want go and order a p965 mobo and an e6300 at newegg for like 300$ and move the shit from your old dell(Plus you gonna need windows so thats another hundred) You will see the performance difference in games and what not, Btw i dont think you even need an upgrade since your pc is good enough as it is.(A dell but its got a good config) _________________

Core 2 duo, in all iots iterations, also pulls less power than any 9XX series pentium.
4MB of cache is what makes the difference in speed. It allows you to keep more data on the actual die of the processor. You can do more instructions and crunch more data before having to access the slow FSB.
If you want preformance, you should wait for the Kentsfields. They're a 4-core verion built on the same core design as the Conroes. 8MB cache instead of 4MB, and higher FSB ratings. _________________ "The art of Engineering is knowing what you can safely ignore." -Dr. H. Hess

Btw the QX6700 will retal for around 1000$ and have 8mb of cache while the Q6600 will retail for around 850$ and have the same amount of cache. _________________

Yes it will but you have to check manufacturers website. And dont call dell they will lie to you and say no and probably force you to buy one from them.
Dude no kidding i called them and they said no it wont you need a whole new pc to support a quad core cpu which is total bullshit, Wanna know what they said? That i need a special sata hard drive and a special motherboard which costs 1000$ to use for quad core thats why it will only be available on the xps plus the lady said it would retail around for 3 G's with the base model(Q6300)
with only a gig of ram. Dell Boi please listen to me and ke7 dont buy form dell or ask dell about quad-core they will rip you off its much cheaper to build your own system.(You know how to put in a gpu you should know how to put in a cpu it's not much harder) _________________

this is the case I'm going to use for my next build:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811147038
it looks like it has better than good airflow and, for less than $50, you cant beat the price. _________________ "The art of Engineering is knowing what you can safely ignore." -Dr. H. Hess
