Okay, so as you may have guessed, im thinking of buying a new system. I've been asking around, getting some information from people like yourselves, to help me in the right direction.
My next question is; what will be better for my system? 1GB DDR2 667MHz or 2GB DDR2 533MHz?
I will be using the PC for High Intense gaming, on high resolutions (1600x1200) so I thought the obvious choice would be, the more RAM I have, the better performance I will get. But I have heard this is not the case.
It will be in a Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz System, and I heard that 533 DDR2 doesnt allow the Processor to act to its full potential.
So put it simply, Core 2 Duo, Gaming PC, 1GB Fast RAM, 2GB Slower RAM?
Thank you all in advance. _________________

Well i would go for higher ram. Since you are getting a core 2 duo get the 533 ram since it matches the fsb of the core 2 duo(266x4=1066fsb, 266x2=533ram, it divides perfectly).
If you plan to oc get the ddr2 667.
Actually it does fine when its at stock speed. But if you oc your going to need ram that can keeps its cas latency at higher speeds(ddr type ram loses cas for every few mhz you oc)so get the higher clocked ram.
More ram if you want to keep at stock, less if you want to oc.
Ke7 will correct me if i'm wrong.
Ok here i found this cool link it should explain everything.

I would go for lower latency memory, which would speed things up [however, just a tiny, unnoticable bit]
However, I would also go with the fastest memory your chipset can handle. The chipset has a buffer inside it, and the higher clock will increase bandwidth to the memory. Besides, you can underclock the higher speed memory if need be, but you cant overclock 533 to a 667 speed. _________________ "The art of Engineering is knowing what you can safely ignore." -Dr. H. Thanks for the comments guys. So, at the end of the day, I should aim for 2GB 533MHz.
Wow, Dell charge ALOT for 677 _________________

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145098
2 GB PC25300 [DDR2-667] on newegg, even cheaper than the DDR2-533
and don't be a f***ing moron, order from someplace other than Dell, like newegg. You'll get better quality support and better quality hardware. _________________ "The art of Engineering is knowing what you can safely ignore." -Dr. H. Hess

The only problem is though, If say I bought the XPS 700, I would have to purchase some RAM from Dell, all be it the minumum, which would be 1GB. & Yeah David I know that Dell isnt the best place for RAM.

No you dont have to get ram from dell if ya get the xps 700 and You can get it in the UK if ya pay the import taxes which should be around 17% or something like that. _________________

same memory from a place in the UK. Good luck with your computer build, dell_boi. Maybe we can break your lave of Dell and transform it to a love of home-builts. _________________ "The art of Engineering is knowing what you can safely ignore." -Dr. H. Hess
