i'm sure someone here knows the signs. pink hue...flickering....random darkness....the signs that *gasp* your CCFL bulb will be needing replacement soon.
my Inspiron will soon be needing a replacement bulb and i am not at all familiar with the task at hand.
has anyone replaced these bulbs themselves, and if so, what is involved? is it tough? tedious? is it even worth it?? i like this computer and ive hurtled over all the other issues i've had with it and fixed them, but this one looks like a bitch.
any suggestions and help is appreciated. i need to find a good place to purchase the bulb and installation kit from.
THANKS FELLOW FRUSTRATED DELL USERS/ABUSERS. |

Sorry to hear about your Inspiron's LCD going out. If by "bulb" you're referring to your backlight going out, what you describe doesn't sound like a failing backlight. Sounds more like a video controller issue or just plain old LCD failure. If it is in fact the backlight or the LCD itself, the LCD is replaced in a kit, the whole thing. If your Inspiron is still covered under warranty, call in and have it replaced, if not, you're looking at a 1k replacement, or a HUGE pain in the ass trying to replace the backlight, at which you'll most likely do more harm to the LCD itself.
Hope this helps. |

1k....ouch
i was thinking it was the bulb itself because i've read around on other websites that those are the signs of a needed backlight replacement. that seems to be the cheapest option so that's what i was hoping and praying it was. the laptop is out of warranty so if i were to replace the parts, it would come out of my pocket.
i did look around though and found companies that sold the lid part (LCD included) for 3 too 400 bucks, but i don't know how dependable they are.
i appreciate your feedback. i don't want to end up buying something and then having my "solution" not even work |
