| I keep receiving calls from Dell collections regarding an account I never opened. Dell is unable to provide me with any documentation that I opened an account and refuses to do anything about it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm at my wit's end dealing with this and I'm on the verge of just paying the approximately $300 charge in order to avoid any damage to my credit score. |

If Dell Inc. cannot produce any proof that you owe money to them, I would call the State Attorney General for your State. Fill a harrassment complaint
Now I have a question. If you never opened an account with Dell Inc. then how did they get your Social Security Number? They have to have this number to report it to the credit agency. If they do not know this number then tell Dell Inc. to do thier worst. |

First, give them NO information. Ask what SSN they have, if it's not yours just say "no that isn't mine" without telling them what yours IS. Same with any other personal data that could identify you further. The whole thing could be a scam, propagated by anyone from Dell's contractor to a Nigerian 'prince'. (Did you know that every male in Nigeria is a prince?)
Collection agents are f'ing lazy. They'll take a name to the phone book or Yahoo and call the first person who matches. I have an unusual name and it's happened to me--some motel in a state I've never even been to.
If Dell won't respond (geez, haven't heard that story in what, at least 7 seconds) go straight to the State AG. Also file with Better Business Bureau, Dell does respond to them. File reports with the credit bureaus too. It's easier to get a mistake erased if they hear the story first from you than if they hear it first from Dell's agent.
What do we always say, "never use Dell Financial". This is precisely why. If they can make your life miserable without even using them, think what would happen if you signed up! _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

Huh? So we went from "how did I get this phantom charge?" to "I make twice as much with DPA"...
I don't get it. Stick with the running story. I imagine that with a statement like that, you're another sales puppet? |
