That's funny. I'm sure it happens a lot. What software was it? That is a pretty good sales tactic though.

But seriously, do you really enjoy selling people the worthless doc contract. It would piss me off to sell that stupid thing. Knowing that dell is constantly screwing people over like that. ok, so it is a living.

edit: ok, so I just read your post in the tech sucks session responding to the guy wanting to know if doc or acs is better. I'm glad to hear you don't like to do that type of selling.

i hate it, i hate people complaining to me when i ask them for their name/number/address, i hate people not knowing what a service tag is, i hate people who know their warrentee is out and expect us to help them out with their $400 computer from 5 years ago for free just beacsue they're custoemrs, i hate having my managers try to force me to push the worthless PC Maitnence 101 garbage, i hate signing people up for a Dell credit account (dpa) because half the time they aren't eligable, i hate wrong company #'s counting against my stats, i hate custoemrs telling me how they won't buy anymore dells in the future (as if i care)

today i had a guy on the line for over an hour, i even had to get my idiot manager to talk to the guy, and all he needed was to transfer email from one computer to another. 80+ minutes and it didn't even get a sale out of it.

my team manager constantly hounds on me and my coworkers to take less time with our calls, and then he gets on the phone with the customer and takes 20 minutes just to tell the guy we don't handle complaints and that he needs to get to customer care.

It's impossible to make comission on this contract because of the wrong company numbers and all the customers who expect free support, so at this point in time, the only thing I enjoy about the job is argueing back with customers. I'll admit, it's fun at times. I just wish I could swear back Sad

i wanna know what you do dude :]

I hope to quit tomorrow. I think I'll just go on a complete rampage and start making fun of everyone that i dislike, tell management they hav no fashion sense, tell all my (customer care) customers "I know, dell is a piece of crap. here, you wanna free computer? here, you gotta free computer. hey, you wanna bitch about dell? you wanna hear ME bitchaboutdell. yeayeayea."

It'll be fun. I definitely wrote "I QUIT" and "i would rather die" on the whiteboard in the meetingroom i was using and left it there. small gesture but still satisfying.
Number 6 is especially true though. It's a make-work project for DOC dontcha know?
Worked in online marcom groups Dell.com & Support.Dell.com, saw all this Spyware schiest on my Dell work system back in 2000. Solution.... I simply reformatted the darn thing and installed my own Windows Dell version manually. The feeling of no big brother can look over my shoulder made my productivity, not to mention I can load all Mircosoft patches since Dell auto-prevent some since they have spyware installed.

Granted, I always had to enter login-passwd-AMERICAS on my Outlook to check mail, and do some recursive syntax via RUN command to load the printer, but it worked like a charm for over 5 yrs before I left.

The year I left is when IT finally caught up and prevent this back-door access of email and printers on internal networks.

Quitting Dell was the best decision I have ever made in my life. As far as starting some shit before I left, I thought it would be a good idea to burn the que when we had over 30 calls in there by answering and releasing calls continuously till there were no calls left. Then I would put myself in aux, light a cigarette in the middle of the floor, and walk out.

I cant believe they are still hiring for transactional reps in OKC for SMB. I was told by every manager that trans in okc was going to Panama. It was the only reason I took the "Promotion" to Senior Specialist. I broke free from that hell hole 2 months ago, and the idea of going back makes me cringe, lol...

I'd just start telling the callers the truth.

"you have a 5 year old system'" - too bad, we don't give a damn, it's out of warranty, we got our money 5 years ago. It's not our problem anymore.

"windows problem" - buy a Mac if you want to have an idiot proof machine.

"Move email account." - call your internet service, it's not our problem.

"Real computer problem" - sorry you're screwed, you buy a cheap computer, and that's what you get, cheap service. If you wanted good service, you should have bought a good computer. We don't make many of those here.

Actually Star, you should have said "We don't make ANY of those here." Laughing
