Anyone else go to the all hands meeting? What are your thoughts? They sounded like they are in desperate need for technicians, and yet are too cheap to hire any of the contractors. We already lost several good people. Only engineer positiions will have REQ's for outside people. Those without engineering degrees will have to look elsewhere for a full-time job. Dell basically has no afterthought for test technicians.

What is strange and many contractors don't know is, when college graduates come running for jobs every May, Dell has a position open for them. These are basically "hidden" jobs that are reserved for college graduates.

It is sad that Test Technicians don't get any more respect than they do. Without the Technicians the projects wouldn't make it too far. Meetings could go on with less Engineers but tests can't be run without Technicians.

Don't underestimate the Contractors, they may know more than they lead everyone to believe. They too have ears and eyes so it isn't too hard to know what's going on around there.

It's proven that the college degrees have been meaningless at times because it doesn't take a Masters Degree or PH. D to test but it does take experience and the know how. It is much cheaper to hire someone green and straight out of college than someone with experience and the green ones are more likely to hang around longer while they get their feet wet.

More power to the people that fill the "hidden" jobs, it won't be too long until they too are looking for a way out. When they accepted that job they just thought they were going to Heaven soon they will realize they landed in HELL!
