I tried the Dell support site hoping to download the drivers fro my CD and DVD burners but the site was so slooooooooow. The Cd Burner Model # is GCE-8483B the DVD burner model # is GCC-4481B. And they are both H L Data Storage brands. Is there anywhere else I can get these drivers?
Thanks In Advance _________________ Frustrated Former Dell Customer

Unfortunately, the Dell site is the only place you can go for those drivers. I have never had a problem with the download site being slow, however. Maybe try again in a few hours and see if the speed picks up at all. _________________ Have you seen my dell laptop?

Hmmm just tried that site with Firefox and it worked fine. But no luck with the drivers. Is there a scanning tool on the Dell site that will scan my system and tell me what drivers I need? The reason for wanting the DVD burner driver is because the drive doesn't recognize the blank DVDs. _________________ Frustrated Former Dell Customer

What drives are those?
Samsung, Lite-on? You might want to check at the manufacturer's website. _________________ Bill Gates' my boss. If you mess with him, I'll mess with you. |

H L Data Storage It's the DVD burner I'm having trouble with. The CD burner works just fine. _________________ Frustrated Former Dell Customer

Ok now I'm baffled. I didn't feel that link was much help. I couldn't figure out how that related to my problem. That guy had a different model Dell than me. What is firmware ? _________________ Frustrated Former Dell Customer

sorry, you didn't post which dell you have. Firmware programs the device itself whereas a driver is a software link between the hardware and windows. here is a link that sort of explains the difference between a firmware update and driver update: http://www.liteon.com/prod/getDriver.do?xml_id=4_4
Also, it doesn't matter if models of Dell's are different, its the model of the drive that does matter, especially if the different systems were shipping at the same time, they just use the same drive for both systems. Makes it easier and cheaper for dHell. _________________ Have you seen my dell laptop?

I have tried both +R's and -R's and still can't get the blasted burner to recognize the disk but if I put a CDR in it it will recognize it as the wrong type. _________________ Frustrated Former Dell Customer

Went into the device manager and this is the name of my DVD Burner
HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC- 4481B. Plus I just found out it won't play DVDs either. _________________ Frustrated Former Dell Customer
