With all these new forum names, I'm not sure if this is going in the right place, but hey, here goes.
Firstly, a small, minor, insignificant rant at the shoddiness of dells products. I have a dell laptop. Its say, 3 years old. Of course, I expect bits of it to break, although in an ideal world, if computers were made to the standards they were 10 years ago, it'd be working fine.
Anyway, the problem seems to be that the glue (yes, glue, I'm sure there's probably some marginally more expensive, but somewhat more permenant option, but hey) that was holding my laptop's ribbon cable connecting the screen to the mobo has come loose. Of course, in theory this shouldn't be a problem - surely the ribbon cable doesn't need to be in one specific position to work? Well, apparently it does. So while rainbow colours whizzing up and down your screen are all very pretty and that, and I would like to sincerely thank dell for the somewhat relaxing trance induced by the flickering colours, its not really very inducive to working.
Anyway, I went for a few months thinking "Hey, it doesn't really matter, I need to get a new laptop soon enough", and stuck the cable in place using sellotape and a paperclip and blutack etc. I needed to replace the sellotape once every other week maybe. It wasn't too bad. Anyway, more recently the replacing of the sellotape has become a more daily affair - I imagind the cable has become more and more damaged. So I thought "Screw it", plugged the PC into a CRT monitor, and sent dell an email saying "Where do I get a new ribbon cable, and how much" (Although slightly more eloquently, and being a good little boy, quoting my service tag etc.)
Now, I'm also sure that dell have plenty of emails on their hands, and correspondance may, of course, not be replied to very soon. But this is an email. And all they needed to do was give me the address of the dell-fix-me-up centre and a quick quote for the price of the component (massively jacked up from what they paid, of course).
I sent the email on the 25th March.
10 days ago now.
I'm just pissed off that I can't chat online while watching tv. I believe that should be a fundamental right all citizens should be enttiled to.
So, I guess, my real complaint about sdell, is products that break in places where they really shouldn't, and not replying to emails with what I would refer to as "Due Haste".
Well, I'm buying an ibook in the summer... _________________ Give a man a fire, you keep him warm for a day, Set a man on fire, you keep him warm for the rest of his life. |

I thought it was our "right" to be able to chat on-line while watching TV, otherwise I wouldn't have had hubby take my puter to the living room. Colors can be nice while listening to music.

Hey... I sent e-mails lots of e-mails contacted the better business bureau, all kinds of complaint rooms, I e-mailed then got a response, sent another e-mail to both, then to any other address I could find. If you have a complaint give them your name, address,,, e-mail...phone...
I even asked them if they put on black hoods when they left their office....
I did
Harrass them....

This is my first post after going thru Dell Hell with the Plasma TV. Have filed a BBB complaint and am considering a letter to Texas Attorney General.
My question -- has anyone really gotten anywhere with a BBB complaint to Dell? Is there a better avenue? Anyone up for a class action suit
Thanks |

Hi Zunder,
Hubby and I got replacement computers from Dell Hell as a direct result of my letter to the Better Business Bureau (you can do it on line also).
He asked them what finally got through to them and the person he talked to was with the Better Business Bureau.
The Attorney General would have been my next step.
My husband is a retired disabled veteran of the United States Army 28 years service, that was a category I got to check yes on in the Better Business Bureau complaint form if that helped then so be it but we did get results.
