We have a lot of GX260s in our classrooms. After about 30 minutes the DVD in the drive starts skipping. We tried a few other DVDs and it does the same thing. Any suggestions? _________________ Kill me now, all my university deals with is Dell. |

does this happen on just 1 computer or all the computers? If it happens on just 1 system, try a kg dvd player. If it does it on all systems, try an hp, _________________ Have you seen my dell laptop?

As far as I know it's only happening on one system. _________________ Kill me now, all my university deals with is Dell. |

The laser is failing. That happened to every optical drive I ever owned.
Warranty? Call and tell them the drive doesn't recognize ANY disk. It's a bit of an exaggeration, but only right now, it's only a matter of time. They'll grind you through 'diags'-- to get the 'right code' if they run you through Dell Diags, insert the disk label-side DOWN.
Non-warranty? Or just don't want to bother with Dell? Go buy any drive you want. GX260 is a standard desktop, right? Drives are all the same, just plug it in, the plugs only go one way--you can't do it wrong. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

Just tell them that a known good dvd player works great in the system. If they are smart, they will send you a new drive right away, otherwise, they'll make you go through tests and junk. If they do, tell them it didn't work after a little bit of time. _________________ Have you seen my dell laptop?

Every computer we have is under warranty. It makes sense that the laser is failing. Thanks for the advice guys. =) _________________ Kill me now, all my university deals with is Dell. |
