Yep. Further proof that the EOY scales are tipped in an unfair way. Unattainable assets to those that will never see them unless you sell out, or contrive some fancy way to explain shortfalls in manufacturing.

Techs get screwed.

Manufacturers get screwed.

Sales rarely does, but happens from time to time.

Looks to me like the bottom of the barrel are the only ones raking a nice dividend.

I guess I'm the first one from NC to find this board...well things in NC are getting stupid...especially in build...I don't know how much you guys know about this new plant, so I'll fill you in on some of the details...

Thanks to you guys in Tennesse hitting 2.5 ULH (ARGH!!) we are now expected to ramp up to 3.0 ULH, so our previous unatainable target (due to equipment problems and other things that will be explained here in a min) of 60 UPH in each build cell (4 person pods) is now expected to be about 70UPH...yay!

So lets see...how does this overly large plant work...well it doesnt...for starters we have 12 "High Value" pods (2-3 people in each pod), looks like a prison cell to me! They make the poor guys down there wear safety green mesh vests and work in a cage thats about 90 deg all day...not to mention their manager is dubbed "Special Ed". These pods can push out about 80-100 systems each...all they do down there is Processors, RAM, and stickers (COA, Facia, FCC, Trackcode)

so thats what, 1200 an hour...ok not bad right?

ok so we go upstairs to build... 24 pods of 4 man teams, 1 for heatsinks and option cards, 1 for hdd's and fdd, 1 for optical, and 1 quicktest...ok, so then we have the issues of the South Lanes, we have an elevator that feeds the lane with a time cycle of 54 secs...of course thats if there is always a system waiting for it...the actual time cycle is closer to about 68 seconds on an average day...ok so just build on north side till they fix it, right? if they were only that smart...so we're expected to push out 60 UPH in each pod...ok so 24 pods at 60UPH = 1440, umm...wait we have a problem here...High value can only push 1200 to us an hour, so how can we build that extra 240 an hour? well we cant, but we're expected too...infact, 90% of us have had poor attainment on our first EOY reviews because of these issues...

So I'm on AWS, and we run a much smaller team...as of right now there are 4 High Value Pods, (400/hr max output on a good day) and 6 build pods (360/hr practical, 420/hr expected) Luckily me and my team have been able to sustain 75-80/hr on good days when we actually have enough work...but then there's days where we run into other issues

Issue # something, outbound elevators...ok so the outbound elevators in build are rated for 120 systems an hour, thats fed from 2 pods, so 120/hr = 60/hr each, right? well thats only if there is a system waiting for it every single cycle...so 2 lines full = no attainment...

ok so we've got build/high value so nerfed that noone can get a raise, yay! time to move to boxing/burn area...up until last week, burn could only move 600 systems an hour out to Boxing...well thats causing major issues, and then Boxing robots keep tossing systems to the floor, and the Flat-Panel in a Box is slowing things down so much that Chassis Prep has no trotes...

wow...ok...that was long...so in short...THIS SUCKS...I'm tired, and in pain...I drive an hour to work to slave all day, and then an hour home...why? because dell pays me $10/hr...wow...a whole 10$, of course, that is more than I was making at my last job, and concidering that the average salary in the town I live in is about $8/hr, I cant complain about the $$ too much...but I feel like I'm getting duped here...

oh one question...WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH THIS SIG SHIT! I mean come on, there's only so many stupid little "will you fix this shit?" things you can submit, and they're making it a REQUIREMENT!!

I dunno, I'll post later when I feel like typing some more...for now its back to burying my head in my code so I can get the fuck outa this place and go work for a programming company that will work me 2x as hard, for about 10X the money...sounds good to me!

Finally!! A WS1/NC poster!
Welcome to the board, we're glad you found us!

Dells follow through sux. When they designed the Viper line it was suppoed to have burn racks over the build cells. What they didn't know was the building was built on a sinkhole. The floor would not hold hold the weight so they cut the burn racks by half.We never could run more than 75%.Then they put in a bypass on the elevator so we load them manualy, thing was we had to push'em to other end of the plant. We'd have 8 builders pushing stackers and the line would still back up.North Carolina these are the geniuses you work for.Dell never was known as a tech company.

Hey.... What are they gonna do in NC about the schedules. We are hearing rumors about doing away with the AWS shift. Then I heard that they are gonna have some type of A,B and C shifts..... What the hell is that!!! When are they planning on telling us?? The day before??? I find it hard to believe that this company doesn't know what they are gonna do from one day to the next. Mad

Sorry to say this "give em" but in many cases the company doesn't know what is going to do from one hour to the next. (No Joke)

As for the shift changes at NC, AWS at TMC went away at the beginning of this year and we got a 3 shift system. 1A does 5X8 Mon-Fri, 1B does 4X10 Wed-Sat and 2nd does 5X8 Mon-Fri. Now TMC (mis)management has made another shift change. 1st & 2nd 5X8 Mon-Fri and a part-time weekend shift 2X12 Sat-Sun. Look at it this way, there is a pretty good chance that your shifts will go one of these routes in the not so distant future.

Whats up guys? Well it did take me about 16 months but I did find the sight. While I'm on vacation none the less. Even when I'm 600 miles from that place I can't get it out of my head.

Look-the benefits are great but everything and I mean everything else sucks. The managers blow my mind. Everytime they talk I try to ignore. What's the point of listening to something that is going to be changed in a few mins. None of these clowns are ever on the same page!! It amazes me. Out of all the big and small places I've worked nothing compares to these idiots. And I have to say I can't stand all the time we waste on a bunch B.S. training that relates to nothing on my level. Heard about these certifications they're handing out? What a joke!!! It looks like a h.s. diploma except this piece of garbage is worthless. At first it was supposed to raise on the pay scale and then they said well no it just means your able to do all your tasks and you know what f them all!! But hey at least some nights we get out early and I'm within 10 mins to a bunch of bars so I can get plastered and try to forget about how much this place bugs me. NC weather is good though! Very Happy

Well, it's funny how everything I read here is so true and makes me laugh. If you are considering taking a position with Dell at the Winston-Salem facility, you should take a tour first. It's a standing position with two breaks per day. You get a twenty minute break and a forty minute break in a 9 and half hour shift. 5a.m.-3p.m. You'll spend 15 minutes per day waiting in line to get through the metal detectors and security. That's right..every time you leave, Dell want's to make sure you didn't steal anything. Your forty minute lunch is cut to half hour. You'll spend 5-7 minutes getting out at the end of the day behind a few hundred people. As for working overtime, managment will have you in on Sunday ( any shift they prefer) with little notice. Actually, the practice is to tell employees EVERY week there is overtime. Half the time you won't even have to work. So, don't plan on having a life at Dell. Your ON CALL for eleven bucks per hour. WHAT A JOKE ! In fact, I was hired for second shift and I was put on first shift for three months. FK up..huh. No respect. Also, they will work you below forty hours...they don't care about your finances just getting their work done. Disgruntled employees surround you. It's a miserable place to work. Don't get caught leaning or resting your feet. You'll be fired. Don't call in sick. You'll be fired. My advice to Dell, pack your production up and move it to China. We don't want you here. I'm going to buy an HP.

Wait for the Christmas buying season, you will really love to work at WS1 (NOT Exclamation Exclamation ). The song and dance schedule goes like this. People are scheduled to work 12 hour shifts beginning the Sunday after Thanksgiving and you keep working these shifts 7 days a week until Christmas Eve (if you are lucky. I have seen people "volunteering" to work Christmas Eve before).

TMC, EG1 and AM1 have been doing these kinds of shifts for years now. At least this year TMC will not have this kind of luck, the last day for the people there is the November 26th.

Now that you know what will be happening in a couple of weeks. If you do not find this appealing, then I suggest you save what's left of your health (both physical and mental) and get out of there. Oh and pass the word about this site on to everyone at WS1 (but do it discretely because if DHell management finds out about you posting here, you will be terminated very quickly), we always appreciate new information (rumors, daily happenings, etc.) from other parts of the DHell family.
