moT, i would like to go first if i can:

I am not a Dell customer nor was I ever an Dell employee. Ironically enough I use to work for Gateway. I am a owner of a small computer shop on the east coast. Let me tell you all that it is great being your own boss. You can leave when you want to (only if it is slow like in April). You don't have to answer to any uppermanagement or some boss from far away. Those are the pluses. However, they are some draw backs like working sometimes 6 days a week nor do you ever get any vacation time.

At our shop, we do mostly service but we do sell computers and PC parts. We have been open going on 4 years. And the hardware sells are down yet the service is way up. We actually prefer that IMHO.

Now Dells actually effects me on different levels. One is the mostly this mentality of some of the customers where they have the 299 pricetag stuck in their mind. Like for instance, we charge roughly under 150 for a hard drive replacement and data transfer. Yet some people would not choose to repair simply because they have that magical number of 299 in their heads. We all know that they are not going to spend that when getting a new PC. Yet and this is a true some people would have 2 or even 1 year old computers that a simply HDD replacement would fix it but that new Dell is so hard to pass up. That annoys me more then anything.

We also get those types of people who act like they are upperclass because they got a Dell. I am not busting on a customer's decision to get a Dell. I just saying some people have this hard on for their Dell like it was a BMW. And they came in acting like they are all snobby. "Look at me in my Hummer and I am rich so I got the best which is a Dell". That crap annoys me.

Local governments are SUPPOSE to support local businesses. Like for instance, they are suppose to allow LOCAL area business to bid for services. Why not? We however cannot get our foot in the door with them . We also lost some big accounts because they decided to go with Dell because they 'are a big company'. Even though we were cheaper AND we were local. The only reason they went with Dell was because they had a prettier cases. Yea!

BTW, I love this website. I really wish people who were considering buying a Dell would read some of the stories first. You would be shock how many people would be surpise they were talking to an Indian tech. yes they are that less uninformed.

I found this site by typing "Dell complaits" in google. That easy.

good luck

I found this site inadvertantly, but I do go back with Dell a few years. I was hired on by an outsourcing company in Canada to be a L1 telephone technical support person. That was in late 2000. I heard about this site called ihatedell. It was actually another site, a .com site, and I posted there. I would defend my fellow workers and try to enlighten customers. For some reason, I felt I had more of a connection with the people viewing the web site than those I talked to on the phone. I lasted four months, and posted there for a few months afterwards, but the passion died away.

Late last year, I was bored and decided to hit up the old ihatedell boards again. I however typed in .net by accident, and found myself here. Here there were good people, lively conversations, and a good atmosphere. So I stayed. I have nothing big against Dell. I don't want to see them fall. I would like them to treat their employees better though. And Dell does troll through these message boards. If they see one good idea and implement it, making the lives of other easier because of it, then being here is worth it.

I found this site on a Google search.
We have a couple of Dell servers, so I wanted to see what issues people have had with them, especially in the event of any support problems. For what it's worth, so far I haven't seen a single problem traceable to a hardware fault, and most of the snafus I have seen have been config errors, and so my fault. I can't comment on Dell's support problems, or lack of them, as I haven't yet had occasion to ask them for help.
I feel it only fair to point out that we don't have any Dell desktops - if time permits I roll my own, or else order a suitably specced machine from a local supplier within kicking distance.

I am a current Dell DDS employee.

I found this site on google after typing in "dell sucks"

The reason I did this is b/c I also help moderate www.RadioShackSucks.com and we had a thread very similar to this one pop up, so I had to see.

Incidently, we both use the phpBBS software lol

Love the site and see you on the boards.

I work for an outsourced company that does collections for DFS. Talk about hearing complaints all day long, but at the same talking to some really unstable people. Some people should not run their own businesses. Very Happy Anyway, I understand the way DFS works, don't have a clue about what's going on at Dell, and this actually looks like a good learning environment and a way to possibly find some stuff out. We don't get to "talk" to Dell much, and I do as much investigative reporting as possible to help my boss get answers on things, and to help out customers.

It's good to have some positive feedback as well. I concur in that I think Dell makes a good product. It simply works. Unfortunately their business model is sheer torture for the employees and therefor this site.

I guess it depends on the job you have at Dell. I work there and I love my job! I feel that I'm very well taken care of and am rewarded for the hard work that I do.

I understand the model of most businesses is to make money and they have to find a way to do this all the while, trying to make their employees want to work for them. There have been big improvements at least in the departments I used to work with but with a lot of big corporations, someone always feels like they are getting shafted.

I guess I'm just not a complainer and am happy that I at least have a job that I love.

I've heard about this site before (forget where) and googled for it.

I'm a current Dell employee. I don't hate my job. I do feel that I have both perspective of someone on the phone (having recently been in tech support) and someone who can see a bigger picture than just that tortuous phone in their face all day, feeling the leash...er...the headset collaring them 8-10 hours a day. Hopefully, I can shed some light on some of the things going on (I'm not management, but am privy to some info), share some experiences, and maybe help some people.

I didnt find IhateDell...one of my L2s referred me to it. He was pretty excited when he had found it and told me that everything thats recorded in this site is being scanned very intensely by Dell management. He told me there will be some major changes made very soon. Very soon, he lost interest in the site (he is with HP now).

And I lost all seriousness about the site after meeting Grissom. Twisted Evil
