Get a load of this bullshit Dell has on their website:
| Quote: | At Dell, we value honesty, integrity and the highest level of ethical conduct. There are many reasons we devote ourselves to creating a culture that is based on high ethical standards. High standards enhance our reputation as a company and employer of choice. They also help in the acquisition and retention of the best and most talented employees and build stakeholder trust, confidence and loyalty. We also know that adhering to high standards minimizes the impact of ethical issues on company operations and financial performance.
The Soul of Dell
The Soul of Dell reflects the values and beliefs that define our shared global culture. Starting in 2000, Dell began the “Soul of Dell” initiative to redefine our values and elucidate what Dell aspires to be as a company.
Company leaders gathered input through a series of worldwide meetings. We hired an outside firm to perform a questionnaire-based “cultural audit” to identify our company’s strengths and weaknesses. The audit showed our strong push for winning and operational excellence, but revealed our need to improve employee teamwork and the balance between work and life.
With this feedback, the executive team drafted the “The Soul of Dell” statement. It reflects the company’s drive to win and its direct manufacturer-to-consumer business model. But it also emphasizes teamwork, a commitment to being a meritocracy, ethics, customer relationships, and global citizenship.
Core Elements of the Soul of Dell
The Soul of Dell defines the kind of company we are and aspire to become, serves as a guide for our actions around the world, and ultimately forms the basis of our "winning culture." The core elements of the Soul of Dell include the following:
Customers: We believe in creating loyal customers by providing a superior experience at a great value. We are committed to direct relationships, providing the best products and services based on standards based technology, and outperforming the competition with value and a superior customer experience.
The Dell Team: We believe our continued success lies in teamwork and the opportunity each team member has to learn, develop and grow. We are committed to being a meritocracy, and to developing, retaining and attracting the best people, reflective of our worldwide marketplace.
Direct Relationships: We believe in being direct in all we do. We are committed to behaving ethically; responding to customer needs in a timely and reasonable manner; fostering open communications and building effective relationships with customers, partners, suppliers and each other; and operating without inefficient hierarchy and bureaucracy.
Global Citizenship: We believe in participating responsibly in the global marketplace. We are committed to understanding and respecting the laws, values and cultures wherever we do business; profitably growing in all markets; promoting a healthy business climate globally; and contributing positively in every community we call home, both personally and organizationally.
Winning: We have a passion for winning in everything we do. We are committed to operational excellence, superior customer experience, leading in the global markets we serve, being known as a great company and great place to work, and providing a superior shareholder value over time.
Dell’s Code of Conduct
Just as The Soul of Dell articulates our values and beliefs, Dell’s Code of Conduct (“the Code”) acts as the touchstone of efforts to maintain our higher standard for personal and business integrity. The Code, found online at www.dell.com/codeofconduct, is consistent worldwide, and available in 17 languages. Before starting work at Dell, new employees are required to read and acknowledge the Code and agree to abide by the Code and related policies. In addition, our Code is shared with Dell suppliers and partners to ensure that they understand our expectations for business conduct.
Key Elements
Our Code of Conduct includes several key components:
Trust: Our word is good. We keep our commitments to each other and to our stakeholders.
Integrity: We do the right thing without compromise. We avoid even the appearance of impropriety.
Honesty: What we say is true and forthcoming — not just technically correct. We are open and transparent in our communications with each other and about business performance.
Judgment: We think before we act and consider the consequences of our actions.
Respect: We treat people with dignity and value their contributions. We maintain fairness in all relationships.
Courage: We speak up for what is right. We report wrongdoing when we see it.
Responsibility: We accept the consequences of our actions. We admit our mistakes and quickly correct them. We do not retaliate against those who report violations of law or policy.
All Dell employees — regardless of grade level, position or geographic location — are required to base daily actions and conduct on these standards. |
What hippocrates! If they would only practice what they preach!

I had just eaten when I read this!! Almost tossed it all up and it was a damn good steak.
Trust
Integrity
Honesty
Judgment
Courage
Responsibility
Can anybody remember when Dell DID practice these 6 words? I would bet it was just before the first big layoffs a few years back. I know I didn't trust management after the layoffs, and I haven't seen any evidence they have changed since then. _________________ rustyboots (i use to slave at dell) |

What I thought when Dell came out with this "policy" was "So this is this years load of BS that they are going to use to make the customers (and employees) believe that Dell cares about them." and "So this is this years 'Buzzword' campaign theme."
The "Soul of Dell" was a load of crap when it first came out and it continues to be a load of crap to this day.
Oh and Rusty, Dell management (at least on the manufacturing end) has never practiced this policy in my entire time with the Dell. _________________ Q: How do you know Dell Management is lying to you?

| This has nothing to do with what goes on inside dell, but is just put in place as something talk about in a courtroom when convenient. It is a PR generated, lawyer polished, CYA told-you-so statement, more about setting a history to be used to cover for reality as it may occur. |

Complete lies. They always said "Winning With Integrity" is what set us apart and I watched them completely contradict themselves each and every time.
We learned early on that black was white and up was down.

The Soul of Dell is rancid and rotten. It makes you want to retch and vomit.

Trust: Our word is is just that - a word. Nothing more and nothing less. Don't let the fact that our word is usually "lie" get to you. We all lie right?
Integrity: We never seem to be able to do the right thing, unless the courts order us to do so. We compromise YOU so we don't have to compromise ourselves or the precious shareholders. Impropriety? Um, yeah, don't let the SEC inquiry into us fudging our books scare you. It happens to everyone.
Honesty: What we say is absolute bullshit and will never be anything but. It's not even technically correct. We are open and transparent in our handing the bullshit to our employees and you, the public. Honestly.
Judgment: We seem to hear this word a lot, but that's only because we get sued every other day from someone calling us on our shit. It's only illegal if you get caught.
Respect: We believe in a "do as I say not do as I do" philosophy around here. If you want fair, go back to nursery school.
Courage: We speak up to look like we care. We hide wrongdoings daily and that takes the most courage of all.
Responsibility: We have never accepted the consequences of our actions unless the media got a hold of it, then we assign spin teams to handle damage control. We don't make mistakes, you're just targeting us because we were once the number one company. We will deny any said mistakes because it will cost us money to fix them, and shareholders get cranky fast. If you report us, you'll be fired on the spot for some made up nonsense we can come up with.
THAT is what the phrases should really read. It disgusts me that Dell still tries to have people believe this horseshit they print. |

All PR is spun to counter truth. It should come as no surprise Dell's PR is the deadass opposite of what they do.
They call it 'dealing with ambiguity', and if you don't do it, you're fired. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

Dealing with Ambiguity is the catchphrase that is used for describing when something is broken that they don't want to fix. Instead of fixing it, they make a competency out of having to deal with the ramifications of whatever isn't working properly. Funny how they're willing to utilise more resources on ignoring a problem rather than rectifying it, but then again, that's DHell. _________________ Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia. |

Dealing with ambiguity is their overriding internal mantra. What it really means is, "I know the Soul of Dell says this and that, but here's how it really works, and you better fall into line if you know what's good for you." _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

OMG! Puke, vomit and retch are my reactions, although I will admit to a few "uncivil" reactions coming to mind as well. I bought into that load of shit as well, believing like a numbnut that I finally found an employer that would have my back...only to find out that they did indeed have my back as well as my ass pinned to the wall. I went out on STD with an illness that turned into a nightmare complete with neurological problems, an MRI showing brain cysts and a few undetermined black spots in the brain. STD was running out so I did the "logical" thing and attempted to return part time after getting the blessings from my doctor. I was told on the phone that I was "termed" on the first...the day before my STD ran out. My "term package" then stated I was termed on the 9th. Of course, unemployment benefits were denied based on the "claimant is not yet able to perform the claimant's usual duties...as soon as the claimant is released to perform usual duties, if the claimant returns to the employer and offers to perform usual work, finding such work unavailable, claimant may be approved for benefits." Well, just bend me over and pass the lube. I won't go into the greater details of my fuck-over unless asked only because I believe in not boring people with information that they don't want nor asked for in the first place. Suffice it to say that the soul of Dell is a pile of shit. _________________ "Senator! One more thing. LOVE your suit." - Hannibel Lecter |

I started laughing when I read that again.
When you are at a great company, if it's a great company that treats their employees good and with dignity, they show it rather than trying to brainwash you. In addition, Dell is trying to brainwash their employees into thinking they care and are trying to fix the issues. They know they treat people with disrespect and they trying to cover their ass. Possibly keep the people they want to keep from leaving their precious company.
This version of the "Soul of Dell" sounds like the shit is getting deaper from the last one I read. Sugar coating it more.
I see the shit is getting worse from the time I worked there. There are better jobs out there, just might take some time to find one, but they are!!!! _________________ Glad I'm out of that shit hole!!!! |
