The system and the device are not communicating, or the device is reporting an unrecoverable problem. Remove and reseat the card.

It is possible that the driver has become corrupt in such a way as to produce that message. Uninstall and reinstall the driver.

If those don't help, the device most likely has failed.

Thanks for the response Rocke.

What does the Radeon X300 device do? Is it simple to remove and reseat the card? I have not noticed any problems with my m/c.

You will tell from the above query that I am not exactly an IT giant. How do I uninstall and reinstall driver - where would I get the driver to be reinstalled?

Radeon device is the display card. It is where the monitor is plugged.

Drivers used to reside on discs that came with the system, but Dell cheaped out to save $3 per system and they don't ship physical software any more. If you have the 'resource disc', the driver is on that. If you don't, you're on your own to find it on the Dell site or the vendor's (Radeon) site.

Excellent, glad to hear it.

See? You are too an IT giant. That's mostly how they do it--ask somebody or look it up on the net or both.
