I'm having real diffculties installing my Dell P1500 Laer Printer. I had to put in a new hard drive (because mine crashed right after Dell put in a new fan (luckily all that was under warranty). Then I had to reinstall the Windows xp OS and the disk sent originally with my Inspiron 1100 would not install. So Dell sent me a new one which did install. HOwever, I have NOT been able to install my printer. It came preinstalled on my laptop because I bought both from Dell at the same time. It won't install on mine and it won't install on my son's Dell Dimension 4800 desk top either. Dell has been absolutely no help, first telling me they'd send me new software and never sending and I've been through 3 software techs adn 3 printer techs and nothing. Maybe somebody who doesn't work for Dell can help?
Now occasionally my keyboard has taken to locking up - am I hitting a secret keystroke combo that locks it (the caps lock light comes on)? If so, does anyone knoww hte secret keystroke code to unlock? Please?
Thanks.

No clue about any keyboard locking feature.
As for the printer, let's get some more information. Are you connecting through regular ol' printer cable or USB? Do you have the disc for the drivers? What exactly does happen when you try to install? _________________ Don't be lazy, build your own computer... |

Desktop keyboards have a microcomputer inside them. If that locks up, no functions will work. But you're talking about a portable. The keyboard interface is well beyond reach of the end user to troubleshoot. The keyboard is replaceable as an assembly. That may or may not solve the problem, the 'other half' of the keyboard interface is on the motherboard, connected by a sometimes-problematic ribbon cable that is part of the key assembly. There is no "keyboard lockout" key code.
Many things are possible with the printer. Drivers should just install, but if their hardware isn't present/connected/on/happy the driver install can fail. Same printer + cable fails on two separate systems? Got another USB cable? That might narrow it down. (I don't know what interface a P1500 uses.) _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

I see you are from dell. Good luck - so far no one from dell can help.
USB
downloaded your software
tried the printer disk.
They tell me its a software problem but it won't install on a different computer either so that seems odd.
I'm calling tomorrow and trying again but I'm really fed up with the whole thing. |
Correction, I was from Dell... actually, I was from a 3rd party company that does "Dell HelpDesk" Software support for Dell.
Could you give us a blow-by-blow of the installation? What error messages do you get? Does it finalize installation at all? Does it finalize but the printer does not work?
BTW, no need to PM here. We're mostly here to help and/or bitch about how much Dell sucks. By getting this info public, someone else besides me might get a stroke of genius and help ye out. _________________ Don't be lazy, build your own computer... |
