Almost everyone who does Dell field work builds their own client base on the side. You cannot make a living off of Dell work. Once you get a couple dozen clients, and a couple dozen positive experiences, you can take the Dell job and shove it.

Many EU's you service for Dell will be interested in having you look at other items not covered under warranty. Inform them you can help them as a private professional, but any work you do will be completely separate from the Dell warranty repair work, and the EU will be charged your hourly rate. Provide a business card.

Do not solicit yourself to people who don't ask for your extra-cirricular services (aka an unprovoked or uninvited solicitation). There's a good chance one of them will rat on you to your supervisor. Keep a low profile; field supervisors like those at Qualxserv could fire you for building your own client base "on company time".

One more note: from a tax perspective, if your personal side-work does extremely well, you might have to begin paying estimated taxes to the IRS. However, the withholdings you (involuntarily) pay to Qualxserv will almost certainly offset any minor side-work, not to mention all the mileage deductions and other un-reimbursed employee expenses you'll incur (read the forms and publications at irs.gov to learn more about mileage deductions, especially forms 2106 and 1040-Schedule C)

hey 100pcob thanks for the info an the heads up on this situation because alot of customers have bin asking me, if i can help the with other computer related problems not pertaining to dell, if i have a card if i could look at software problems, and i was going to look into possibly moving forward with that angle but now that you mention that i run the risk of possibly getting fired yikes . . that changes things alot and don't think i can take that route . . not if they can tie me to dell an say something to get me fired. do you know people that do that? an or do you know people that get other jobs entirely if so do you know what jobs would be a good fit?
